Can't really help you there as I always buy hardware at a store. It also depends where you are. UK has some cheap sites IIRC, but one of the cheapest I ever saw was an Eastern Euro online retailer, can't remember the name. If I do I'll post again.

Sapi back in 2003 when I was really hardcore, 10GB a month was gone in a breeze on 512K, then I upgraded to 1MBit.

Now I'm on 10 MBit (though it's shared), and I only do about 3-5 GiGs a month. Much more this month as M2TW has made me do all kinds of research. Watching videos (youtube etc) on all kinds of history. Gaming can take up a lot of bandwidth unknowingly. Also SKYPE can use a lot when you use it as a primary phone and you're almost always on.
If you remember me from M:TW days add me on Steam, do mention your org name.

Holy, if you're in the US, I use Newegg.com. They don't ship outside the country though, so if you live someplace else you'll need to find one. You should be able to pick up a DVD-ROM drive for under $20. That's what I paid for my last one. Burners cost a little more, but not a lot. You can get an 18X DVD+-RW for $30 or so.

Great, just great. So I have to buy some hardware?

Both my games which I got for christmas, dont work on my computer. Glory Of the Roman Empire (New city building game) doesnt like my graphics card for some reason, and it crashes every 5 minutes of gameplay, EVEN THOUGH I have downloaded all the newest software and reduced all settings to the lowest possible. Now, I cant even play my mtw2 game.

    ....shit

    (Rant over)

    I hate you :(

Avg. broadband speed in Australia is ~512kbs (you can get up to 1.5mbs on ADSL1 and 24mbs if you're lucky enough to have adsl2+ avaliable) and we pay a lot for what is to the rest of the world ridiculously slow speeds

@holybandit - you might as well upgrade to a DVD drive now as they're dirt cheap and useful for a variety of purposes...

Yeah, 512 sucks, but what can you do... it beats dial-suck though... anything beats it.

I have ten megabit downstream (Reliably), and no traffic cap... I've downloaded 8 gig files in a few hours more than once.

Ha, I call the pox on all of you 1mbit lucky people! I have a 512kb line AND a 10 GB download limit each month! I pay a LOT for it and the moment I cross the 10 GB threshold, my connection gets set back to 56K modem-style. Unless I fork out another 5€ for 5 GB (which I have to do 2 or 3 times a month), I'm stuck with a lousy connection. Having a brother playing WoW and its huge patches doesn't help either. And why are Anime Music Videos so damn addictive?
Bloody Belgium. In all the Neighbouring countries, there is no download limit. But ofcourse, in Belgium there is. God, I hate politicians. And sapi, I feel your pain, mate.

    :P

The worst thing about how things are in australia is that the independant isps are only just winning a battle to get the govt. owned (until late this year) and sponsored telco/isp to market full speed adsl - you see, everyone could theoretically have 8mbs broadband (the network could take it) but a 1.5mbs limit was artificially imposed to (i'd cynically suggest) boost sales of their cable plans, which were 10mbs :P

That aside, has the op got any more questions or is this just going to drift off topic? :)

Is this in all over OZ or Queensland only ?. I've been wanting to come down to Queensland (St.Lucia, Brisbane) and stay an year or so, but this is might be bad in some parts internetwise. I bet there's better things to do outdoors anyway.

OZ is big and low population density, unlike Europe, so I can see why there'd be less high speed lines. They'd be worried they would'nt get them sold.

Faenaris I'm also in Belgium, Antwerp. There is a cap on this line but it's a lot 60 GiGs I think, you should try on Telenet.be. It's not that expensive either.

All this pales in comparison to servers. Also in 2003, my online squadron for Lock On (www.lockon.ru) was running a community files/videos (gaming 100% legals of course) download server on a (IIRC) 500 or 1000 MBiT line 1500 GiGs limit per month. Beat this, that limit got used up in a week those times when hot new videos (using the game engine) were released by the community. I remember this guy made a DVD quality movie from the game 600Megs for that file....zip.... bandwidth gone in like 4 days, and we had to buy more not everyone had downloaded the file yet. Us being a prime hosting facility felt we should accomodate. That was expensive to run but we were piggybacking a professional server also used for company (i.e money making) purposes, which helped pay the gaming bills.
