Cats suck. They always die right away. I have had horrible luck with cats. Coyotes and crappy urinary tracts always get to 'em.

Yep cats and urinary tract infections - caused by preservatives in the comercial brand cat food - if yopu love you cat then youll poison it every day with "DIE KAT DIE" our new revolutionary cat food which gives a shinny coat and makes it do jumps in the air.

if you want to increase your cats longevity - feed it foods supplied by your vet - and lock it inside at night.

I've had over 30 cats through my life time, and they have almost all live long satisfying lives. Let me ammend this: The ones that didn't become road kill.
I have two cats in their early twenties and three about to hit thier twenties. I don't even pamper all of them, but just take care of them. My main problem is where I live. I live right on a truck route and my cats are always getting hit by vehicles. One that I have (20.5 years old), just got hit by a vehicle a little while ago, but survived. He developed a urinary infection due to damage sustained by the accident, but even with that and two useless rear legs, he continues to live a good life. (It is sad when I think of it; I have spent more money on his medical bills than my own).
Even with the problem of living so close to the highway, the average life of my cats is about 15 to twenty years.
I do pamper my cats a little, but even before I knew anything about caring for them, they never had any short life expectency problems.
If you care for your cat, it should live for a long time. My favorite cat it now 18, and I've had her since I was a little kid.

Well my cat we found under our van as a kitten one day, and I got to keep her. That was about 9 years ago and she is still here today, we live on a busy road but she is extremely cautious when crossing it, she waits until no cars can be heard or seen. Her 8 kittens however have all died, except for one (though that was in the care of the people we gave them to, I looked after them when we had them ).

That's odd. I typed a history of my cat ownership here early today, detailing the long tragic road to my current opinion of kitties.

Alas it has been swallowed by the Org, never to be read by another soul.

I will give the cliff notes:

Cat #1: Let outside by parents 20 years ago. Eaten by coyotes.

Cat #2: Let outside by parents 14 years ago. Eaten by coyotes.

Cat #3: Let outside by parents 13 years ago. Eaten by coyotes.

Cat #4: Given to parents after I moved out some ten years ago. Let outside by parents nine years ago. Eaten by coyotes.

Cat #5: Wife's cat. Developed a urinary tract infection. After treatment, developed a behavioral fancy for urinating on the couches which was impossible to cure despite numerous attempts. Both the cat and the couches were begrudgingly removed from the house. Cat donated to no-kill shelter. Cat escaped. Cat became feral and lived in the shelter roof for several months. Eaten by coyotes.

Cat #6: Fed "all natural" vet recommended kitty food. Developed an acute urinary issue which backed up into kidneys. $1,800 Surgery. Cat died in recovery. The vet shaved the price down to $1,000.


Bought another dog.

Heh. Now I have to consult staff re: are cats a species/group entitled to Org protection viz-a-vis the "no-group-bash" rule.

Preliminary ruling: DoD cats are obviously federal employees, or at least contractors. Management of them should best be left to DoHS, not the FDA, who would just supply recipes.

So, 'til Org decides, no cat-bashing.
