Lights out... a post apocalyptic story

I wanted to post this (i read it a long time ago) because it is probably one of if not the best online novel I have read.

First let me say I did not write this. So first I shall give credit to the genius who wrote this.

Lights Out is an online novel written by David Crawford (aka Halffast) that depicts life after an atmospheric nuclear explosion's electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) causes a worldwide electronic blackout

It was written by a survivalist afaik. (Click the wiki link if you have never heard of them, I am unsure if many countries outside the USA have them to the same extent)


The title of this thread pretty much sums it up. It starts at the beginning and goes from the gradual break down of society to all out chaos (towards the end, think mad max only more realistic and not as weird...yes there are still bikers)


The book has been finished (for a few years actually, that was when this was making its rounds on survivalist and firearms forums)


A few ideas first skip the prologue (it's best read as an ending, it reveals who did it...so skip it and wait!!! I did and it made the story 10 times better) that and it’s probably the silliest and worst written part of the book, so you don't want to get the wrong idea from the beginning.

Also a general knowledge of firearms may help you understand some of the stuff, but it goes into enough detail to know what’s going on.

Also be warned there are a few pro gun/pro libertarian undertones in this book, but nothing radical (or too controversial for the mead hall imo) it's good representation of some parts of America.

And Spoiler there are some fights scenes so if that bothers you, you may not want to read (nothing gorier then the "I cleaved his head off and blood spurted everywhere" medieval stories )

And it is also very accurate in most regards. In reguards on how to gather water and such.

I am surprised no one wanted to read it, this is a top notch story. Complete with food riots and dead gang bangers.(and it's written in a realistic way too, none of that rambo junk) I'd be surprised to meet a survivalist who has not read or at least heard of this story.
