Nobody said we wernt blunt. This guy may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but Kudos for not folding like weve seen so many times before. Houston probably has more muslims than the rest of Texas combined

One dispute: apparently Texas did not upset *Teh Muslims* after all once I read the article.

In fact, Teh Muslims appear downright peaceful and unoffended.

Also, why was he hurting poor, innocent Snowball just to get back at Teh Muslims?

Being next door to a mosque could have additional problems, such as the call to prayer in the morning. In some instances, it is blared on loudspeakers, and upsets non-Muslim neighbors. The village of Hamtramck in Michigan has had issues with this.

A weird story though. He is protecting his right to stay on his own land even though he now agrees that no-one is asking him to leave, and those he is protesting against say they are not affected by his protests. Very odd behaviour.

The fact that a, community center, school, and athletics facility are suddenly being installed next to my house would piss me off. No need for the mosque prayer call to wake you up. The horde of parents droping their kids off, honking, kids screaming and yelling will wake you up.

This is also not in the city or suburbs, so this is a big change. Going from peace and quite, to having a school next door is not something most people would be pleased about.

That's a good point. What are the planning laws like in Texas? Was permission given by the local authority for such a development - in which case this gentleman should have had the opportunity to present his objections there - or is such permission not needed - in which case I suppose anyone can change the land use as they see fit.

As for the fellow's reaction, it seems to reflect a poor light on the great state of Texas. It's a small and petty-minded protest against people he obviously knows little about. Texans are usually bigger and more neighbourly than that, in my experience. You'd think decent, God-fearing folk who want to make a better life for their community would be most welcome.

I had a hard time time not laughing when I read the article. So somebody unsuccesfully tried to offend his neighbours for no other reason than that he would look stupid if he wouldn't go through with it. This is some serious misplaced feeling of honour.

I can totally agree with the fact that a community centre/mosque isn't something that someone wants to live next to. The well known NIMBY-reaction (Not In My Backyard). I, however, believe that annouances can be minimised when both parties set down and talk as adults. The Moslim community in question isn't offendedeven by the fact that the purpose of the pigrace was to offend. Mr Baker may have ruined the chance for some good-will (as a surplus to the normal agreeable neighbour behavior)by being an ignorant ass.

annoying ignorant imbecils, I salute you. You reap what you saw.

Sounds like they are outside the city limits. So zoning isnt going to help. You own the land you do what you please is generally what happens. Isnt really all that uncommon to have large communities outside the city limits.

Reflects horribly on Texas when seen in the light of the article. The man is a dumb@## for all intents and purposes, but there are some legitimate concerns people could have. Granted the man was lacking commenting on any of them, .

Still having a School move in next door is not something most want. There's a good reason that people are moving out to more rural area's instead of to the metroplexes and having a school next door would be one of them.

It appears to me that the Muslims have upset the Lone Crescent State rather than the reverse. Hehe, if they've got any sense of humour, these Muslims would make their prayer calls exclusively in teh Spanish, just to taunt their neighbours:

What we have here is... failure to communicate. Instead of choosing diplomacy and dialog, Mr. Baker opts for childish racist stereotyping/baiting and confrontation. As long as they are law abiding, community oriented taxpayers, why should he care? Whatever happened to that Texas hospitality? If they were Baptist bible thumpers would he still act like this?

Most protests are bad enough but, when nobody pays attention to it, it becomes even more pathetic.

    Teh plot thickens !!!!!1!!!!11!!!!

Okay, so I'm reading this online French rag, France-echos.com, when suddenly I stumble upon a whole string of articles devoted to this case. As it turns out in a bizarre twist of plot an unholy alliance between Texan rednecks and French Front National supporters has formed itself. There's a huge amount of correspondence going back and forth. Teh French are now even collecting funds to support a pig race.

Which leaves me with only one proper course of action to follow: I am going to sponsor a pig too! I'm going to name it: 'Louis VI - the fat pig'. Strike, stay tuned to your local tv and watch for my pig whizzing by!
I'll have it sent over to your house after the race so you can organize yourself a barbeque party with it.

'I just wanted to take a moment to say "Thank you" for your efforts in getting support for my family. I am Craig Baker's sister and I also work for him. I have read the many letters sent to him as well as some of the numerous emails that he has received from France.
Their are many Americans fighting in Iraq and giving their lives, and yet, the Muslims are over here in America, trying to change our laws and using the U.S. Constitution to hide behind. (Freedom of Religion). Our family is very grateful for people like you. You can also let your readers know that they can send emails and letters in French. We can have them translated.
    Most sincerely,
    Brenda Baker
    '

More than ever I'm now convinced there is some sort of mystical bond between France and Texas. They seek each other's company against all logic and laws of nature.
Or, rather, the French seem to connect with the Texans - whereas the average Texan would shoot some French poofter within minutes.
Hmmm...what is it with French fascination for Texas? Is it because Texans are thought of as the most 'American' of all Americans? Unspoiled, raw, agressive; unhindered by the demands of civilization and formality? A secret admiration, even, dare I say it, envy?
    Food for thought for me....

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Here are some links. They are underneath spoiler tags because they are from a rather unfriendly anti-Islamic site.

Press that Union Flag at the top of each page and the text translates itself into a language vaguely resembling English.

Well Louis. I think one just needs to look at me to realize why the French love Texans. I am the most Texan and you are the most French. Do you love me? Yes you do. We have a bond becuase not only are we the most masculine becuase we get the most women. Wether it be a French mans charm or a Texans poiletness and cowboy demeanor we get laid. That is the true secert. Women. Not to mention we aernt hung up on being PC and we were a French colony.

Lets take this apart piece by piece.
Their are many Americans fighting in Iraq and giving their lives, and yet, the Muslims are over here in America,
Damned Muslims, look they're living here

    trying to change our laws
By building a Mosque in a place where they're allowed to build Mosques?

and using the U.S. Constitution to hide behind. (Freedom of Religion).
The Founding Fathers got a lot of things right, the right to carry guns, kicking Pansy British Ass but when they said anyone can practice their religion here they weren't serious.
