does it affect ur relations, i dont know, but i dont think so cos i stole 2 gens from portugal without any adverse affects, although i was already at war and pwning them so ...

as to the family tree thing, im wondering if that is a bug or on purpose, specially when they ahve kids and i cant find them on the family tree. seeing as my 2 princesses were beefed out, like 8 charm, they had high chance of having children trait, both gens have had like 3-4 children none of which i can see on my family tree -.-

Stealing generals usually adversely affect relations due to him being on their territory (military force on soil without military access lowers relations). However, this isn't an issue as usually I only steal the general if I'm at war with the faction. It's best if you can steal the guy out of a city, have him hire a bunch of mercs and then turn around and siege the city. Usually, you can take it without the enemy even having a chance to relief it.

Yep, it's quite nasty. In a long war, taking one of their core cities deep behind their lines with this kind of a trick can really hasten their collapse.

There is risk in losing your princess or the general not finding any mercs to hire -> quick death. However, I've used this about 3 times so far and it didn't backfire yet.

Getting back to the original post i am fairly certain it is a bug as I remember someone saying this.
In my campaign as Russia I am at war as Denmark and my princesses married 2 of their generals (not faction leaders or heirs). Both princesses and the new generals disappeared from my family tree. One has since been killed in battle and the ther doesnt have any children yet (I remember though that the princesses trait gave her an increased chance of childbirth). I hope they have some children later.

I think that I also read in the bugs or the faq section that if you marry a faction heir to your princess then he does appear in your family tree.

Yes the faction heir does. You have a son in law! But of course he is unuseable by you. If it a regular family member he comes to your side with Royal Ties. I got a really usefull general from the HRE this way playing the Danish. I then sent him with an army and he campaigned the rest of his life, becoming merciless in his war against his old faction. His 1st son ended up as faction heir and then the King of the Danes. So his life definatly took a turn for the better. I usually roleplay the various faction family members and tend to try to have them live up to their beginning traits.

Well I just installed the big map mod and the family tree problem seems to have sorted itself out. I married my vision of beauty passionate woman princess to a HRE general, and he has a son, daughter and 2 adopted sons. The whole family is on the tree, although the biological children have English surnames - rather than 'von Saxony', one is called 'of Selwyck' and one is called 'Pole'. No matter, this guy is delighted with his wife.
