Default No Auto Consolidate Troops ??????

I remember in the other Total War games, there used to be a feature (Game option?) called Auto-Consolidate Troops. It would make sure that each turn the stacks of troops would always move troops around so that you wouldn't have 12 stacks of spearmen of 33, 21, 23, 45, 32, 12, 54, 54, 21, 24, 34, 29 troops, respectively, instead you'd have 60, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60, 22.

I can't seem to find this option in M2TW, and the constant plagues are causing me to spend at least 5 minutes each turn to consolidate troops left and right.

    Any ideas?

Not an option as far as I know, and in MTW no matter how many units in a province they were inderectly 1 whole army. For MTW II and RTW for that matter hitting the M key while the stack is selected will merge the units together for maximum effect.

But unlike the original MTW all units in a province cant be merged only units within a stack.

So selecting and hitting the m key is the only option.

What I typically do is full units go to the lead stack, and the depletyed and extra units stay behind and merging to keep the main armies units at full power

While M is your ticket, manually merging can give you higher valor guys in total. If you try to always merge two or more units so that a tiny number of high valor troops remain, you can retrain that stub. Since now new recruits are at the experience level of avg of the unit, this allows for more elite troops in the long run.
