Thread: Sudden realization...

    Default Sudden realization...

Ok, I understand completely why the cavalry chasing routers go all over the map!

So most of the CA guys are based in Australia, right? Well some of them are based in the UK, which explains everything!

Have you ever seen those british humor clips where the group of people are chasing one person all around a hallway, going in and out of different doors in no apparent order or fashion? That explains it! The coding required for cavalry chasing routers was sent to the UK office for editting, and the developers decided to give it a touch of the homeland humor.

On a side note, I have a tip for beginners. If you have multiple provinces experiencing religious unrest because of heresy or a different religion, it's better to team up multiple priests in one province at a time rather than spreading them out. They're more likely to get "battler of heresy" trait lines in my experience.

The closing credits of The Benny Hill Show is what it looks like to me. It's a perfect analogy.

Yep. Thats the music I always play in my head while fast forwarding through the end of a battle.

(the song is 'Yakety Sax' if anyone was wondering.)

Actually, CA currently has two teams in the UK and one in Australia... and we did export a few people to Oz as well, following a fine and ancient tradition But much of the text was written in the UK by members of the Rome team, which is probably at the root of those little English touches...

Now there is a development team for ya. They can laugh at their own foibles. If you take yourself too seriously, it makes for one dreary life.

So Jerome, any unofficial news on what we possibly can expect in the next patch? I'm sure that a comment regarding two handed units and cavalry would brighten up the day of many a folk on this forum.

Soo Jerome, any unofficial news? Any comments completely unofficial, with the promise that you wont be quoted in later dates, on possible maybe directions of the team patching the game?

(Did I use enough vague language to insinuate properly that we wont take this as holy writ?)

They also tend to get the 'growing faith' trait line as well. Having the purifier (aka battler of heresy), missionary and that line are a sure way into the College of Cardinals and to the Papacy.

In addition to better traits, it seems that most of my priests are less likely to get traits that make them unorthodox when they have buddies, so that means less heretics.

    Better than unofficial.

So according to this, we can expect a fix for two handed units... That is kind of vague.

I think this is because they get the job done quicker as a pack. They still seem to get the battler of heresy line when working solo, provided they actually affect the heresy - but they are less likely to do so, or maybe it's just that it takes so much longer.

Judging from what I've seen, Battler of heresy only gets really high when the priest(s) has taken heresy from a high level down to nothing... so I speculate that it's based on some scheme awarding a point in the trait each time x% reduction of heresy has happened in the local province. In my experience this happens most with:

    1. Packs of priests working the same province.
    2. A priest with a high level church building in the same province.
    3. An area that has high heresy to begin with.

It doesn't seem to matter if the church is even the primary thing responsible for removing the heresy, the guy there will still get the trait line generally. As for explanations of those points...

#1 is because priest skill levels stack as far as anyone has been able to observe, so multiple priests act like one large one in determining how much they influence the population. 3 3-star priests seems to be equal in effect to 1 9-star. It may not be quite that simple, but more than one IS effective.

#2 is becuase those high level church buildings give nice fat conversion percentages already... so keeping some priests there to level while the building cleans up the area is pretty nice.

#3 is because as far as anyone can tell, conversion is based on the size of the pool of people it's trying to affect, as opposed to the size of the local population as a whole. If we assume the region has 10,000 pop, then each percent in any given religious type equals 100 people. Since catholic (used for demonstration only, should be same for other types) conversion can only affect non-catholics, naturally the more non-catholics there are, the greater portion of the population will be affected by conversion each turn. It's like this:

Case 1: Conversion percent from priests and churches combined: 10%
    Catholic 50%, Heretic 50%

In this case, half the pop, or 5000, are heretic. 10% of that is 500, which should be the amount converted to catholicism this turn. This would reduce the heretic populus to 4500, only 45% of the population now, a difference of 5%.

Case 2: Conversion percent from priests and churches combined: 10%
    Catholic 90%, Heretic 10%

In this case, 1/10 the pop, or 1000, are heretic. 10% of that is 100, which is how many will convert to catholicism this turn. This reduces heretic populus to 900, now 9% of the population, a difference of only 1%. The trend holds similarly, meaning that priests can make the most difference (and thus presumably up their conversion-specific traits the most) in the areas that are already the most out of control with non-catholics.
