    Shield: 0
    Hit Points: 1
    Recruitment Cost: 720
    Upkeep: 150

    Abilities:
    Can form spear wall
    Effective against armor
Combat bonus in woods oe snow
    Good morale
    Good stamina
    Very long spears

Just got the ability to use these in my current Danish campaign. I have never used them before. The stats are decently good and the abilites comments makes them sound like they are good for shield walls against cavalry and possibly infantry. I'm curious if anyone has used them yet, and if so, their experiences with them. Pricey to buy but low upkeep makes me wonder if they are worth making my main linemen. Right now i use Dismounted Feudal Knights as my main front linemen. Cheaper to buy but more upkeep costs than the Obudshaer but they got better stats. Opinions?

    Use the Obuds.

Spear wall units are decent against infantry, great against cav and can hold a breach better. Heavys are less versatile which is what you want in your front line troops. Use your heavy's to break up the line after your Obuds engage.

From some tests a couple of people ran a few weeks back, Obudshaers pretty much wipe the floor with any other melee infantry unit aside from Janissary heavy infantry (who also have halberds). What they found was after the initial impact and contact between units, the halbardiers would kill all the enemy who had penetrated within the reach of the weapons, and from that point they'd kill from a distance with the enemy never being able to reach the Obudshaers with their own weaponry. The result was about the only losses the halbardiers suffered was in the initial fighting; they'd basically lose nobody after that.

For a faction that wasn't exactly a major player in the actual medieval period, the Danes seem to have a mentally hard army...

That sounds like what pikemen should be doing... except that they can't keep hold of their weapons.

They certain can if you take their swords away from them, as you found out. I love your pike fix; in my opinion, pike should be vulnerable to missiles and flanking, but nearly impervious to melee from the front. Otherwise, what's the point of those long pokey things?

Obudshaer rock. The Danes have an amazing melee roster. These guys and war clerics make for some hardcore melee troops. Their norse archers are also essentially medium infantry.

When I made the post I had only two more territories to take to win the short campaign. I bought three units of the Obuds but I never got to use them. My other troops took the last HRE castle and the last Scottish city before I could get the Obuds into play. I saved the campaign though so I can come back to it later and play it some more. I havent tried the war clerics yet neither. Right now I'm trying a Sicily short campaign.

The Danish troops do stand up incredibly well against other western factions. I sent an all Viking Raiders army to take Dublin form the Scots. Kinda playing it from a olden time perspective. Was fun to watch them wreak havoc on unsuspecting Catholics err... I mean fellow Catholics.

Um, dude... Danes = Vikings. As in, the guys who conquered most of Europe for a brief period.

The viking period is generally regarded as 793AD-1050AD so after 1050AD Their time had already passed for the most part. I'm no historical expert but after 1050AD other nations were rising and taking the lead in international affairs, warfare, and conquests.

True, but the "medieval period" covers the 5th century on, so to say that they were not a major player in the medieval period is rather unfair.

I am playing the long campaign with the Danish right now. I have had the opportunity to use the Obuds extensively. I have to say I do enjoy using them as they are very excellent in repelling attackers and especially cavalry. I also had the opportunity in using them against the Mongols, who conquered formerly controlled lands from Poland and Hungary. So I managed to repel them back to the far eastern side of the map with making great use of the Obuds.
