Thread: Downloading

    Default Downloading

    Hey.
I want to download EB but I don't want to ruin my RTR game I have right now.

I have to redownload a clean version of RTW first correct? And if so, how do i do so without erasing my RTR game? When I go through the setup, it asks if i'm sure that I want to uninstall all RTW components first. I stopped it there. Thanks

If you have 1.5 there should be no problem (I think).

EB uses the mod switcher so it is easy to download over other mods. You should still be able to access RTR platinum from your vanilla shortcut and EB from the shortcut on the desktop. However I would recommend that you check with an EB developer first.

If this method is incorrect it would be much safe to
    1. Go into your R:TW folder (which will be either C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome: Total War or C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome: Total War) and go into the folder marked "saves".
    2. Right click on all the saves and click cut.
    3. Then right click and paste them to "My Documents".
    4. Uninstall R:TW. After the uninstall make sure that you have deleted everything in your old R:TW directory (which will be either C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome: Total War or C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome: Total War).
    5. Then reinstall R:TW and (if it is not gold) patch it up to 1.5.
    6. Download EB.
    7. Download RTR.
Then play EB from the shorcut on the desktop and play RTR from the vannila shortcut.

I recomend you to change the name of the folder of the current RTW instalation ie:
    C:\Program Files\Activision\RomeTW\
    to
    C:\Program Files\Activision\RomeTW-RTR\

and uninstall the RTW from Start->Programs->Rome Total War->
it will delete all the register entry but won't harm your files as the folder path to the files has changed.
Now you can either change the loder back to the default one or change the path in the shortcut on your desktop.

Then install RTW to new folder, install EB and enjoy the game

Marius' Mule, do you have a lot of space on your hard drive? Like say 6 gigs or so free?

You need the 1.5 patch for version .80 of EB

Okay. Here's my recommendation. It's a little methodical, but it will give you flexibility if you plan to play a lot of RTW mods. As with any step-by-step instructions, read through to the end before doing.

    1) Download the 1.3 and the 1.5 patch from http://www.sega.com/support/support....port_romepatch
    2) Completely uninstall RTW from your system
    3) Install RTW, but instead of the default directory rename it something like "(drive):\(path)\RTW Core\" - for example, "C:\Games\RTW Core\" - do not install it into a previously created RTW directory!
    4) Install the 1.3 patch
    5) Install the 1.5 patch
    6) Go to the directory where you installed RTW
    7) Copy the "RTW Core" directory and then paste it; wait for however long it takes to finish. You should now have "Copy of RTW Core" in the same directory as "RTW Core".
    8) Rename "Copy of RTW Core" to "RTW-EB 0.8" or whatever you want to call it
    9) Install EB 0.8. When the patch asks where to put it, direct it to your "RTW-EB 0.8" directory.
    10) Play!

This will keep a clean copy of RTW 1.5 on your computer in the "RTW Core" directory. Anytime you want to install a new mod, copy that RTW Core directory and rename it (ie "RTW-RTR PE", "RTW-TFT", etc). The only limitation is that the mod will need to run on patch 1.5, so check the mod requirements before you download.

    Good luck!
