That's nice, if only the comforting thought of having a backup.
It will be great to work on MP mods: coincidental GameSpy glitch or is something wrong in the code?
But it's limited to 8 players? And has no chatlobby. Perhaps an IRC channel should be used too?

The limit is 16 players to each Network, so 16 players can log on to the one Network and the chat lobby is there just like the Game lobby.
Very much like the FakeServer with STW but players need to know the name and password for the Network and have downloaded their own Hamachi. Very straightforward.

Hamachi is pretty cool

And is the easiest thing I ever signed up for. All you need is a Network Name, that’s it!
The Hamachi server links the networks members together, basically serving the same purpose as GameSpy. And of course the peer to peer network established is prone to the same weaknesses as when GameSpy does it.
And for all of the complaints about GS and lag, here is the truth regarding that network situation. I found this on a Czech game site talking about Hamachi and LAN networking.
“The transfer speed in the network directly depends on the quality of Internet connection of every individual PC, i.e. if you play some game with several users, the speed is limited by the slowest individual PC connection in the network, but that is how it works in the standard LAN.”

I always knew this was true, but it is nice to be confirmed![]()

We, Heerbann and Elite have tried using hamachi to play M2TW with LAN the first day it came out in November 2006, because there had been log in problems with gamespy.
But we all had a slow connection speed which caused lags, although we all had good hardware and fast connections.
So we disliked to play LAN. It is just too slow imo.
You must edit an ini file. I forgot the name and I don't have mtw2 anymore. There was a section network in the file, you had to input your hamachi IP (e.g. 5.32.....) And then restart the game and it works.Originally Posted by Stoicblitzer
