So once you got the .bat file, you created the shortcut and it opens the file in notepad?

Try rightclicking and removing the tick from "open with notepad" thing.

Dlain has shed some light on my conundrum. And the game now runs fine.

I was clicking simply Save, and the file was saving as whatever.bat.txt!

I never thought to save as .bat.

On the upside, game + the medifix work fine now.

GH! BRING ON HAMBURG!

EDIT -

ALSO, more on the upside, I've disconnected all the desktop necessities and re-connected them to the laptop, so the gaming aspect of my ability to play is now no longer even remotely inhibited.

I'm also playing around with this cool feature that lets me split the screen between the desktop and laptop monitor.

So I might have some interesting screenshots if this works out the way I hope it does.

I just thought of something else that might make life a bit easier or more interesting:

We could post the savegames at the end of each reign on the Library thread, if that kind of file hosting is available. The main reason being not only a backup copy, but to allow people to try different strategies and to allow for a better "grasp" of the situation at the end of each reign.

I have bad news. I will not be able to take an active part in this PBM at this time due to a hardware issue. I hope to have it resolved within a period of one hardware item delivery. I may read the forums from time to time, but will certainly be unable to fire up the game. Feel free to skip over me when assigning avatars.
