Surely converting would have created copies, not overwritten the originals. Check to see if they're still there?

I would definitely advise retrieving the original .tga files from their discs instead of converting from jpeg format though. Jpeg compression has probably created artifacts which will ruin the visual quality. Converting back with preserve those artifacts in the .tga files also.
