He shouldn't have a character record, that's show_err's strange way of saying something else is wrong.

Are 'the Scotti' and 'the Ordovices' etc set as surnames? If so I thought that the entire male family (named characters) had to share the same surname when it was set in descr_strat......

Oh well, that did take care of that error message. Now it's saying etc... etc..etc...line 845, column 43 could not find next child. Children list must be terminated with an end.

Referring to this line:

relative Prasutagus, Boudicca, Cador, Manawyddan, end

Far as I can see, there IS an end. Why isn't the program seeing it?

Oh right, hadn't read that far down your strat, basically you,ve got compete mismatch between what's in relative section and armies / character records.

Every male in the relative section has to appear either on map complete with army as named character, OR in character record section if he's under 16.

Your Cador and Manawyddan don't seem to appear in either of those categories, and you also have people in character record that don't appear in relative section (e.g. Casticos) which they must!

You must also have relative section working so that dad is at least 16 years older than oldest son, and each son/daughter is listed in descending order of age (as defined by age of named character or in character record) I can't check that's right as your character records etc don't tie up with names in relative section.

Easiest way to get a working family tree is copy an existing one out of vanilla / working descr_strat, then make sure you replace each instance of an original name with the same name from your factions new name list, then adjust location co-ordinates and traits as necessary.

That's what I thought I did, just copied the information from the Scipii faction and changed the names and locations. But if you are telling me it's all muffed up, I'm gonna take your word for it and completely re-do it. So, here goes...*crosses fingers*

You're a genius! I'm not sure what you saw there, but when I redid everything I finally got the real reason for the CTD.

Now, all I have to do is try to figure out why it wants what it wants, because it shouldn't...modding is such fun. Probably be even more fun if I had the slightest idea what I was doing, heh heh.

Don't worry about it becoming less fun, even once you think you know what you're doing, the game normally manages to find some new bit of weird behaviour to persuade you otherwise!

If you're still getting stuck, post the new -show_err message and describe what you changed before game started to CTD.
