My road began somewhere around september of 2006 when I saw the movie Gettysburg. After that I started looking for a game about the American civil war and the best I came up with was Civilization III ()... But I played it for quite a while, even upgraded it to Conquests. Then I played the Mesopotamia conquest and saw these ancient civilizations that I had never heard of before (Hittites, Medes, Sumerians), so I became obsessed with them. I read everything about them I could find. After a while I watched the movie Alexander, and the world opened up a little more.
After I got bored with Civ3 and it's Rise of Rome conquest, my brother (who had tried to make me play the TW-series ever since Shogun) introduced me to RTR. It was perfect, since it had all the Alexander's hetairoi and all that. I played that for almost half a year. Then I tried the Platinium Edition, and with it came some random bugs and problems, and besides I was pretty tired with the game. So I set RTW aside for a while. A few months passed by and I was itching to play something related to the ancient times, so I tried Troy - Total War. It was good, it had Hittites and all, but it's emphasis was on mythology and not on realism. My brother had also hyped EB for god knows how long, but had gave up on me months ago. So while biting my tongue and holding my nose I tried EB... and it just clicked.
The End
Edit: (I have never played vanilla RTW)
