All right, as noted elsewhere I’m working on my own 2-hander fix. Part of this fix involves altering the default animations of almost every unit so that every unit of a given type uses the same animation, for example I have most of the Halberd units using the Halberd Militia Animation ATM.
Of course the upshot is that all units with a given weapon set will perform exactly the same with a given set of stats which will make the inevitable re-balancing that has to go with the 2-hander fix much less damaging to the overall auto-calc battles as the current re-balancing does.
To date I’ve managed to do all the foot missile units and non-missile cav as well as a fair number of the Halberd units, (or Halberd esque units anyway).
However, I AM having a few issues with regards choosing animations for some units. This has a lot to do with the fact that I simply haven’t used or faced 70% of the units in the game and as a result don't have a clue what they are armed with. Some units have descriptive names, or their descriptions mark them as particular units, (pikemen and spearmen especially). Most Halberd, Sword and Shield, and 2-Handers are simply marked as infantry.
Thus what I’d like the community members to do, (if they are willing), is provide a list of every non-missile foot unit for me with their weapons listed so that I can see exactly what is what as it where. if you want to add mounted units and missile units for the sake of others then please feel free to do so, I’d bet I’m not the only person who would find such a list useful. You don't have to fill in every unit, or even a single faction. Just one unit will do.
I'll compile the list here I the first post and will give some starting examples to get us going so you have an idea on how to lay it out.
Before I give that initial list however I would like to ask the community a second question. What do you feel is the fastest 2-handed-Sword animation as I am finding even slow attacking Halberd units are destroying much more expensive 2-handers and I’m hoping to dig out a faster animation and thus up their power a bit.
Finally, @The Mods: I've chosen to put this in the main section rather than the mod section because ATM it isn't really a mod, it's something that’s sitting on my back-burner. I've just got 3 new games and am already part of a major mod team for another game as a coder, so I have commitments to that team that have to come first, and of course I want to play my new games. Once I tire of my new games I might well have enough spare time to run this as a mod in it's own right. Until then it's just a littlie something I’m working on in free moments.
That doesn’t mean you won't see anything of your help, just that changes improvements, (and indeed anything at all), won't happen quickly and the initial release could be a few weeks off yet. Thanks to the way I’m doing this I’ll then need people to check it out for dodgy looking animations and then go about re-costing and re-stating all the units to fit them in, in a balanced format in both normal and auto-calc battles. Thus as you can imagine it's going to be a while before this even gets out of the alpha stage. So ATM I don't feel it deserves the honour of a separate modding section thread and the kind of questions I want answered could probably best be answered by the larger community as it's stuff they will see lots of.
