but what i really meant was if its a poor faction that asked for a trade right, because they are poor they wont afford to import any tradeable goods

its not the faction that gives you money, its their merchants, so even poor countries can have rich merchants.

And you can sell you trade rights, even to poor countries.

He means people in the city. Traders.

They can buy imports, and they do export. It matters not if they are making money.

I'm not talking about the merchant units; i was refering to the general idea of the merchant class in a country's population. therefore, even if the country is poor, it has a merchant class in its society which will be happy to trade with you. of course, this is abstract, so you cant see merchants in city's population, but any trade rights will slighly increase your trade income because of this concept of merchants.

    simple answer: Yes, always.

Trade income depends more on YOUR ports than theirs.

What really bugs me is that trade rights doesn´t work over great distances. Take a look in all your settlements and you´ll see that they only trade with your neighbouring provinces. The furthest I ever got trade was in Alexandria which traded with Naples. So the only reason to get TR is to make money from them by selling them. OTOH the longer you wait to sell them the more money you´ll make.

When I had a trade agreement with the Moors as England, I had a trade link from Dublin to North Africa.

Um... trading works fine with distant trading partners. Just not overland. If you have a port you will be able to form trade routes with cities far away.

As I stated earlier it haven´t been the case for me but I´m glad that it seems to work. I was beginning to worry about that. Regarding land or sea it shouldn´t be any different. Traders/ wares travelled long distances via land so I should be able to trade via land to distant places.

It doesn't work that way in the game though. Land trade routes can only be made to adjacent territories. Sea trade routes can be made to any province on the map that you have trade rights with, and has a port.

With the sea trade, i'd assume that it prioritises nearby provinces, so you'd only really see distance trade if you set out to do so by only having trade rights with england as egypt, for example.

As a side note, it will also help you if you plan to drop a economic warrior, er merchant, into said faction's territory. Your individual merchants will make more money trading goods out of regions that you have trade agreements with. Sometimes significantly more as in 100+ florins per turn if it's a pricey good and your capital is distant from the region.
