There is usually more then one rider on the beast. But in the case of only having one rider left on the beast and he die's so does the beast. You'll often notice during a battle with towered elephants that you'll take casualties of 1 or 2, those are the rider's dieing.

Giving the rider hitpoints means that in the very rare case of him recieving an arrow/javelin and not the beast. Means you might actually have elephant units surviving longer in a rain of missile's. Still though, IMO elephants are great in EB. They are strong but their very frail. The ultimate shock weapon, you can easily rout an entire army with one of these units if used correctly. But if you are not careful with them, they die very quickly.

You've never run across an archer in the tower dieing?

Actually, I haven`t seen that either.

What I`ve seen, is the following:

An elephant section with the peculiarity of 2 archers on each of the elephant`s tower, in addition to driver, has suffered cassualties on a battle (say, 2 elephants killed in a unit of 12). That`s 6 men dead (2 archers+driver x2 = 6), in addition to the 2 elephants.

Let`s forget the fact that they might be cured, cuz in this case they weren`t.

That same elephant unit that had suffered cassualties in the previous battle, in the next one, the number of elephants killed is not represented in the total count of elephants of the section. The thing is, that the section gets 12 elephants, but 6 crewmen less. That is, on half of the section`s elephants, they get 1 archer less on each tower.

That`s what happens to me, not that the crewmen are killed by arrows and such. BTW, I`ve emptied 4 units of "creeeshhhen archers"`s arrows on a unit of elephants, with fire ammo enabled, in hope to rout them. Needless to say, the bloddy bastards didn`t rout, and I didn`t noticed a single crewman killed.

(That was in Darthmod, that`s true).

    Cheers!!!!

I've had single man losses to towered elephants in battle. They are rare and it takes quite a bit of looking to see them. I've only had it happen in vanilla, but that is also only when elephants have stayed alive long enough to have them occur. Playing on VH against some form of archer watch your unit closely, you'll get those 1 man losses eventually.
