    Default Fixed Billmen

    I got the animation fix for two-handed units.

    Anyway, so now that I have billmen, Armored Billmen, and Dismounted English Knights . . . what do I do with them? I've noticed that they do good against cavalry in a protracted melee, but regular billmen are unarmored, so I doubt they could accept even a light cav charge without heavy losses. A shame, since I was hoping for a replacement for levy spearmen.

    Where should I position them, and what should I use them for? Does anyone actually have experience using them?

    It depends how they've been fixed. If an animation similar to that of the Halberd_Militia has been used with no modding of the stats values you will find they make excellent infantry killers. DEK will rip through everything till you add the sheilds fix.

    If they do have modded stats, then they arn't very good even before you fix sheilds. With fixed sheilds they don't have a hope.

    theres a shield fix! pm me link plz Carl

    if thats zxiangs fix, its posted numerous places (mostly by me) but billmen lose a lot off one charge from mounted sarges (check my 2hander test thread in the citadel)

    Personally don't have a problem with using billmen units as england - the AI factions generally send such poor armies against me anyway, that they hold their own perfectly well, especially when backed up by some men-at-arms and knights

    @Peevegreen: Their is, but it'as one i've created myself and it's nowhere near ready for release yet.

    You're sure right about that. If something else is there to absorb the initial charge, they'll slaughter light cav, but regular bills do not kill horses on impact, the way spears or deployed stakes sometimes can.

    Dismounted English Knights seem like they'd have a better shot, however.

    So, what does the "shield fix" do?
    It adds an amount equal to the units sheild value to the units defence skill while leaving the sheild value untouched. Sheilds don't give any benefits in CC ATM. It's not a perfect fix as testing has shown, but it helps a lot even though it does mess up auto-calc.
