Defending settlements

Hi

I have been playing England for some time, but I still don't know how to use fortifications properly. Just now I was defending a casle. My archers were on the walls near a tower, but the tower has not fired at all. How do you make your towers to fire?

If they are a cannon or ballista tower, you need to get a unit (any type of foot unit will do) near enough to the tower that the unit touches it essentially.

Unlike Rome Total War, you have to have a unit near the tower "manning" it.

This is shown by having a flag on top of the tower, and when you select you unit "manning" the tower/towers the flag will Bop up and down.
