Thread: Why So F****** Slow?

    Default Why So F****** Slow?

I reinstalled MTW I today on my new computer after months of playing MTW II and quite frankly it rocks. It might not be as pretty but the gameplay is a lot more solid. A breath of fresh air after a year or so of not playing it. Anywho that's not really why I took the time to post here.

Here's the deal: My computer is pretty good. I can play MTW II on high settings with lots of little guys running around and all very smoothly. When I play MTW I it too runs pretty smoothly too except that I have quite a bit of jerkiness when units are first entering combat (I think it's a sound thing). I've had this problem with older computers too, but more pronounced. It was so bad that I played the game with the sound of on my old system. What gives? Do you folks experience this too? And if you did, how did you stop it?

    Many thanks!

Never experienced that before, have you patched the game?

Sure have. I've patched up to 2.1 and it's there. Has been since day one. Like I said I think it's a sound issue since the game jerks only when big groups are hitting eachother and it goes away when I mute the game.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I've had (have...) similar problems. Sometimes, if the first battle I fight is an attacking battle, the game just won't cooperate and the game is so slow that I easily have time to make myself coffee while the bar between the campaign map and the battle map is loading. Once the battle begins, I have to exit immediately (earning my general a Weak Attacker vice or similar) since the battle is just too slow to be playable.
I once tried to fight a battle despite the "lag". It was a very easy battle with my 40 Chiv knights against some 60 UMs (newly conquered province that rebelled), so I just ordered my knights to charge. The whole thing took about 30 minutes...
The second, third etc. battle always work fine, it's only the first one that screws up. I have no idea why really.
It's not easy being a man, you know. I had to get dressed today... And there are other pressures.

    Some more suggestions:

    1. update your sound card driver
    2. tweak your MTW Audio settings (ea hardware mix on/off)
    3. tweak your own comp's sound settings
    4. kill someone innocent -- it's not a fix, but it makes you feel better

    System specs ?

Maybe ASROCK board with onboard sound ? I have had some probs on this comp also, while on my slower comp with Intel proc+Asus board+soundblaster+ati8500 it runs perfect (well it crashed sometimes while ESCing, but not anymore it seems).

Even if this comp is slower then the AMD one - go figure.
