Thread: Video converter software

    Default Video converter software

I'm interested in a prog that can convert wmv files into any other format like avi, mpeg, but specially quicktime (I think it has the biggest compression ratio?)... not interested in Div-X or the quality of picture, only that the final result takes up the least amount of disk space possible

Not 100% sure it can handle wmvs but virtualdub should be able to do it.

Out of interest, why don't you want to use xvid?

It and wmv are the best formats for compressing video...

To be really honest... I've bought my first comp back in '97. It was a P-133Mhz which I had owned until about two yeara ago, when I got myself for this used P3-1000Mhz (and Medieval TW, he he).

In my heart... I'm still living in the closing years of the 20th century as far as comp technology is concerned and I think it was a much better time compared to what things are like today, somehow more *humane* in a way which is hard for me to put into words.

I still remember Warhammer: Dark Omen and the old Shogun, which my old comp was waay too slow to run at the time, and I wanted to play that obviously wonderful game so darn much... :)

Eh - didn't want this thread to turn into this waterfall of nostalgia... but this is why I don't like X-vid, portable mp3 players, these new mass produced graph cards and stuff like that - although it *is* completely irrational and I'm perfectly aware that I'm still gonna end up using X-vid anyway because I have a 10Gb hard disk and no CD or DVD burner.

There you have it, hope this made some sense.

It does, but let me tell you that one of those new Dual Core CPUs and those new graphicscards(the old ones were mass-produced just as well, don't think they were all handmade) can give you a very humane computer experience, personally I never found extreme lag to be very humane.
