    Default ...and the LOSER...wins....

I was playing Lands to Conquer 2.0 mod m/m as Russia. I attacked a city held by rebels. after a tough fight i finally routed the enemy and got the Victory screen. I chose to -continue battle- to finish off the routing enemy even though i only had 2 depleted archery units left. anyway, while i was pelting rebels with arrows they recovered from the route and turned on me. My 2 remaining units were wiped off the map. so now i had 0 soldiers left. so I lost after had been declared a winner, but the battle wouldn't end (I was playing with timer off). I guess the game didnt know how to handle this unexpected turn of events. Unable to do anything else I had to quit the battle. and after quitting the battle I was granted victory and the city even though my army was completed annihilated with rebels still in control of the city!

If you get the option to claim victory, you're guarenteed a win. In fact, in RTW it was sometimes a good idea to quit after you killed all but a few routers to not get the 'bloody' trait.
Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.

well, i know i can just end the battle. the whole point was that i wanted to wipe out the enemy completely so that's why i chose to cntinue the battle. but i was the one who ended up being wiped out thus reversing my original victory.

Nope, once you get the victory message, youv'e won regardless now. thats what the message mean, it's an irreversable victory.

I was under the impression that once you got a victory screen, the enemy could no longer rally and would continue routing -FOREVER-.

Oh well, that is clearly not the case. Poor luck, friend!

I encountered the same, it was in a city siege.

I won the battle and decided to chase the enemy. They ran to the town center where they turned towards my army and started to fight again.

My army got annihilated and I lost the battle...

You guys never noticed during siege battles that, even after the game is 'won' the enemy is able to recover and attack? Apparently something about the town square inspires men to fight to the death, always. Their mom must be watching or something..

I've learned its not worth the trouble to kill them, since even if you opt to end the battle, the men are still killed anyway. Like when you autocalc a siege and 500 men 'remain' yet no 500 man army pops out outside your walls. They just sort of fall into a blackhole and are never seen from again.
