In response to your how do you view different angles question. - you move the view from left to right or zoom in or out.

I see this the black bar bit on the vanilla map also and I need to check but I think its vanilla with the HGT in also.

I need to convince myself that both of these always occur at the same location but I'll try the heights thing although I don't see why it should be connected - and I'm seeing it quite a bit in relatively flat areas. My hunch is its memory although I've got 2 GB in my machine.

I haven't spotted the rivers thing in vanilla but the black bar definitely appears there.

Well I'd think the tiles consist of two faces each and they're not connected, so if they don't fit well you may get some weird problems. That was the reasoning behind my assumption.
Could also have to do with ground types mebbe.

I've seen the black bar on lots of different ground types so not really sure what is causing that. I'll probably try and test that out on some bland (i.e. same value) heights and ground type maps at the weekend and see if I can track down the problem. Question though have you spotted either of these issues before? Particularly I'm curious on the black bar bit as I can certainly find them on the vanilla map - I guess I need to try out different graphic settings etc to try and check if its related to that also.

I mainly posted to see if anyone else had encountered the issue. (I never spotted the black bars on the vanilla map until I went looking for them!).
