I have a noob question. Can anyone tell me how to access the battlemap editor?
To access the battle editor you have to open the medieval2.preferenence cfg file with notepad and add this line in at the bottom of the text.
[feutures]
editor = true
![]()
sorry i meant
[futures]
editor = true
I may be wrong, but don't you mean
[features]
editor = true

Please check my post in the buglist thread. The changes to the preferences.cfg file are still not permanent post patch. Each time you start your PC you will need to add that new line. Another observation is that the camera will not rotate, it will only move forward/backward side to side. Unless there is some different command for this that I am unaware of

It can rotate, I can be wrong but I believe numlock 8 is forward, 2 is back. 4 is to the left and 6 to the right. And either 7 and 9 or 1 and 3 can rotate it.
Atleast in 1.0
Workaround: Make a copy of the .cfg file after editing and store it somewhere else. After rebooting, copy and paste that copy back in the main folder.Originally Posted by Orda Khan
I assume that it uses the default camera, which is not the Total War-Camera. I haven't been able to move the camera in a useful way, too.Originally Posted by Orda Khan

Thanks for those number tips Stig, I admit I did not try 1, 3, 7 and 9. I'll give it a try.
When you are placing units, the usual rotational arrows work....until you place the unit, then it reverts.
Thanks for the workaround tip R'as and yes no TW camera, just the default

I wonder if anyone knows why the battle description does not appear at start of battle?
I have made a reproduction of the Battle of Liegnitz, have run it a few times and adjusted unit strengths etc. It is more or less finished and seems to be playing quite well but the description of the battle that I created is missing. All it says in the box is 'no description'. This did not happen in RTW so I am scratching my head a bit. It's no big deal but it just finishes the job better.
I'll upload it once it's done

I've made a few custom maps but cant get them to work online (multiplayer)-- in the "status" area it says "incompatible." Any ideas?

Editor creates new map in (apologies here, working from memory) data/world/maps/battle/custom. To use them in custom and MP they need to also go in data/world/maps/custom. All parties must have the map whether it's been edited or not.
As for Historical Battles, the battle description is not generated to the created battle. There is still a text file created, though this seems to no longer function as it did in RTW, the battle opens with 'No Description'. The existing Historical Battles have a script file but there does not appear to be a description in that and they do not have the text file that the description creates, so I am at a loss as to where the description is found or how to get it to work

once this is done how do you open the battle editor do you just open the launcher

Orda: you may be able to prevent that problem by making your cfg file read-only once you have the text in it set as you want it to be. I've been editing mine by hand then setting it to read-only again, and the changes seem to stick - though you can probably just set your settings in the game menu, quit, then go lock the file and get the same result.
For camera movement, I've been working with the cinematic editor, and they may be similar. For that, WASD moves forward/back, and strafes left/right. The arrow keys were controlling tilt and rotation. IIRC holding the right mouse button down also allowed the camera to be aimed using the mouse in a very natural way. Since you guys are talking about the "default camera" I figured it was worth a shot as maybe they're functionally the same.
