    Default Siege engines

I recently started a new England campaign - cue much nasty usage of sharpened stakes. Anyway, I was fighting against the French, and peculiar chaps that they are, they decided to push half a dozen trebuchets, catapults and ballistas over the bridge I was defending. Those that survived the hail of missiles then carried on pushing, and in the process, ran over and removed some of my stakes.

So, they have a counter - of sorts - perhaps something a carracio standard type unit could have a use for.
Don't have any aspirations - they're doomed to fail.

    Rumours...

I don't think the AI is doing that because its effective, as surly blasting you to bits with 6 catapults would be much more effective, but perhaps we players could use it. Cerrucio standard, with its fearless soldiars and nice stats, could very well be use to clear away pikes\stakes for a cavalry charge.

I see this all the time in bridge battles & those siege engines really reduce the amount of fighting space available & can add to performance slow downs. I remember a time when the AI used to line up its missiles on the other banks & arrange its melee troops into nice formations now it just rushs across. Although with the new mass of units its much harder to use just a single unit or two to hold back an entire army.

Perhaps you meant to post that in the Longbows thread?
