    Default Question about Armour/Uniform

    Hi everybody,
Can anyone help me to identify a uniform/armour from the period around 1100? It is a statue of Dom Afonso Henriques, first king of Portugal. What would this uniform/armour be made of? what colour would it have been? what would have been the combo of clothing used here? I would appreciate any help with this.

    Thank you.

    Uh what?
I'd say it's a studded leather armor, the helmet seems to be iron and the cape is probably wool (could be something more expensive though, I'm not a historian)

You didn't post this in the history forum so why do you think they would see it here?

King Henriques would be wearing a short sleeved chain mail hauberk (shirt) that just passes his knees, and Iron spangenhelm (also called a nasal helmet or norman helmet), drawstring pants, a cloak, a short tunic (to his knees), and an akheton (padded tunic). Hes holding a kite shield (judging by the height) and sword. The color of the clothing would be anything you want it to be, as there was no specific color code for military uniforms at this time. Obiously his armour (helmet, chain mail, etc) would be metal colored. For pics go to this site: http://angevin.org/
The uniform, clothing, armour and weapons throughout 11th-12th cent. Europe was basically the same, so this site will give you an accurate perspective. Sorry I had'nt responded to this before, I just found your question.
Marines never die, they just go to hell and re-group.
