Thread: graphic bug on the strategy map?

Default graphic bug on the strategy map?

    hi there,
I installed the 1.1patch and got now ugly horizontal stripes on the strategy map.
unfortunately I'm not allowed to send you a link with the screenshot....
I'm using catalyst 6.2 and had never any graphic problems with version 1.0.
Is this a known bug or are there any workarounds?

Add anopther post wit the link, ou can't put a link into your very first post on these forums but you can add it in your second or subsequent posts. Sounds like your Graphics card is overheating though to me...

I don't think it's a graphic card problem. I played in skirmish mode for hours and everything was just fine. It looks to me like a texture bug.

    artifacting.

ya, either ur card overheating, or they are messed up,

same thing happened to alot of people with the 7900 series with NVIDIA. it happend in all graphically intense games. i had the same problem till i bought 2 Zalman fans and installed em. now they run cool as can be. and no more artifacting!

here is the link to their site.

see what fits, then get it. i bet ur problem will go away then.

OR, turn off shadows and HDR. and AA... and pretty much anything cool, to make it so ur card doesnt have to work too hard...

Yep, that looks like artifacting to me too.

It's not really a problem in and of itself but if it gets really bad (i've had my entire screen shift position like a bad quality vhs tape) it's a sign of overheating.

Give your graphics fans a clean and see if it disappears (i have to do that, now i remember :D )

ITs not artifacting. It only occurs in certain parts of the map. I have the same problem and I know my card is fine, trust me on that. It only happens at the very top of the map and at the very bottom. Almost as if the map is tearing.

Trust me - artifacting doesn't just happen over the entire map - it comes and goes at a whim.

That's what it looks like to me, anyway.

Thats the thing, its not coming and going at whim, its in predicable situations and places. Plus, with my computer which is super well ventilated, extra fans, I could even take a screenie of my gpu temps during the campaign map and it would be perfectly normal. I can start the game, start a new campaign (so no heavy amounts of armies just lots of fog of war) and only at a certain angle and only at the very top and bottom of the map the lines will appear. And only in Russia and the deserts of Africa. Not in england or Scandinavia. I just can't see it being artifacting due to overheating.

Doesn't have to be overheating - it could be card is overclocked, or not getting enough power from PSU.

On the othe hand, those kind of artifacts are VERY obvious, and I dont see how a patch could make the GPU work SO MUCH harder than it did preiously, and just on one game?

Is the corruption identical down to the pixel between reboots? If so, its probably not the card overheating - more likely you have a data corruption somewhere in your game files. Reinstall and see if that fixes it.

If it stays the same during one game session, but changes (to a different stable pattern) if you reboot, then its likely a graphics card overheating problem, most likely a bus timing problem (or a memory problem) causing errors when the textures are being downloaded to the card.
