I wonder why people who don't have any of them would want on these forums? (as a moderator - Sasaki Kojiro?)

My first Total War game was RTW.

I own RTW Gold Edition (plus BI) and M2TW.
    I support Israel

Typical of him to vote for that one!

    Lets see,

I ripped Shogun TW off a website, ( it's how i tested to see if i like new games).

Loved it went out brought my own copy to support Company that made it, some no name called "The Creative Assembly".

So... The games I own, and my opinions on them...

    1. Shogun TW + Mongol Invasion.
A game in a class of it's own, the concept, much dreamed of by young boys at the time, a game that we could finally, play "master and commander" so to speak, and get down and dirty in the field.
Control and release. There was nothing like it.

    2. Medieval Total War ..........(My truely ultimate, so thrashed, best $80.00 i ever spent on entertainment.)
For game play, this game still has no competitors.
Upgrade the graphics, add more resources, more provinces, more individual units, with an improved M2TW Diplomacy, put it on the Big Map of spurius, and M2TW could stay in it's box.

IMHO: Ranks as the greatest game, I have ever played.

    3. Medieval Total War: Viking invasion. (just more fun for the above.)

    4. Rome Total War: Great game, a step forward in many respects, in foresight, perhaps to much time on Graphics. Not enough on Diplomacy, when in retrospect, diplomacy could have been the main devlopment of the game.
Playability was good, as was as much as generally possible i believe, the historical context was used, abit, with some editing, and exclusion, not with standing time, space and money.
All in all a very good game.

    5. Rome Total War: Barbarian invasion.
Actually imho, an improvement on RTW. Immersion was certianly better, and felt better in playability. Truely came to life with the addition of Spurius' Big Map.

    6. Medieval 2 Total War:
Much was expected of this game, much was not delievered. Great Graphics.
Diplomacy, a gaint leap forward, but still lacking in the basic's, (like get off of my land, Actually hard to see how the heck they missed that one).
The changing of the historical tense of the map, to a disassocaititive one, was , imho, the hallmark of being brought by a multi national. A total break with the historical context helps shift the goal posts, depending on where you want to go of course.
Gone is any pretense to mark territories historically, and no effort was made to increase the number of provinces with the addition of the Americas.
Espeically when the circumstances both allowed an increase in map size, and provinces accordingly. Burgundy, a very important State, County, plus Duchy was excluded totally, infavour of, in the medieval sense, a non senseual America's.
To go one further, the exclusion of the Time date on the game screen, is another inventive way of dis-associating the player from the immerision of the game.
Much will be said of "stops people gaming the game", with knowledge of when certian things happen.
Well i did that after seeing what turn i started, and counting how many to a year. Took 3 sec's.

Many of the things that made MTW orginal, such a great game, and great immerison, haven't been included.
But still, for a mature product, this game (I suspect only) was a forced released, as the bugs are serious and glaring, imho.
Certinaly not what we would have expected, (or come to expect,) from a doubling of the work force to produce it.
Certianly, strident effort was made to produce more individual units types for Factions, but when glaringly obvious exclusions from Factions, eg: no Crossbow for Roman empire(Byzantine), no nafftan, yet three other factions have its use.
No extrapolation of them surviving the 1453AD fall, by including Cannons, Musketeers, and the such, to the level of other factions, seems obviously shortsighted.

The reworked Mongol invasion, is most certainly an improvement, and the fact that the Timurlane invasion is included, is wonderful.
But looking at the east, where are the Armenians, and Georgians, both historically important fations with a long history in the area.
Important Trade roads have been left out, and 1 level of roads taken away, But a spilt from Castles and Cities to define recruiting, rather than developing immerision within each faction, certianly leaves you scratching your head.
The removal of Oil at the gates, was to strong they say, but thats it, it should be strong, most battle's should be fought in the fields, Cities/castles being the strong hold of the Faction, their base of growth, develoment and recruiting.
Make the Strong hold just that, important cities didn't change hands as rule, on a regular basis. In many cases they were a thorn in the sides of a conquoring army.

Ok i better stop there, i think perhaps, i have drunk to much....and being having to many thinking thoughts.

I really just need to go down to a retailer and buy M2TW, but I have so many unplayed games as is, I feel like I would be neglecting them even further. I guess I'll wait for a few more patches for M2 before I go out and buy it.

Got 'em all. Heck, if they announced a Desperate Housewives Total War, I'd probably preorder it.
