WW2 total war games would hard to do. Other TW games are epic battles over large fields and walls. WW2 was urban; shooting from buildings, marching through the country side etc. Would be completely new.
WW1 TW would be dull. Sending 100's of troops over a field to get shot then the enemy doing the same until both sides are destroyed.

Gave up on RTW after a couple of months, though, I missed MTW too much!

I am sorry to say that I disagree. The problem with a WWI/II TW would be that there would be six units for every faction - tanks, gunners, machine gunners, planes, boats and U-Boats (WWII TW only). A little dull in my opinion - you need more variety to create interest and that is where you start to see fantasy units such as singing and screaming women on the battlefield.Originally Posted by General Boreaus Brittanicus

Just a correction there Omanes; WW1 had very little in the way of major artillery and aircraft. It really was as simple as "going over the top", getting shot to death and then letting ze Germans do the same.

I never testet STW, because I don't know if it's worth to get, although I've just got MTW.

Got all the games, but I had to start somewhere. I did with the viking campaign of MTW:VI.
I can't run M2TW on my computer, and it is not working very well on my girlfriend's. I'll wait a while!
Played Rome a wee bit to test the game. My father actually plays a lot at RTW, to my surprise.
Never tried Shogun. Soon.

Well, I do remember three or four of my friends speaking of STW like constantly five year's ago: we were playing a collectible card game connected to medieval japan at that time, and the were excited like drunken rabbits about that game.Originally Posted by Martok
I came to the total War games when medieval came out, being quite fan of this historical period. But I had to wait to have a proper computer. Then another game (Civilization III) came out and took ALL my computer game time! Until the ERA's box. Because I wanted so badly to play the viking campaign.
But I'll give a shot to shogun, of course!![]()
I remember playing Shogun so many years ago that its really just a hazy memory; and I never really related this game to Rome when I bought it. It only occured to me once I started reading the .org
oh the distant memories.
But I love Rome, it drives me nuts sometimes but I really enjoy it, I've got the BI expantion as part of the Gold Disc but haven't played it yet.
My dad bought me M2TW for my birthday coz he's great but my computer isn't powerful enough for it and he's not quite great enough to buy me a new one... .seems to think I'm old enough to be buying my own.
TUT.
Played M2 on a friends computer however as England and was surprised by the slow speed of the battles !! thats gonna take some getting used to !!
Gonna finish my Egypt game; wiping out the last of the romans, then will probably decide between a Greek game or moving onto BI.
TW is my top gaming experience.![]()

By the way, Rome is the only game in the TW series that I own (and I'm glad I do). If I were to give consideration to buying another game in this series, which one would you recommend? Or - are there other titles outside of the series that I might want to check out?
If you have a fairly modern computer, you should probably get M2TW. Sharing the same engine as RTW, you will feel right at home with it. It needs another patch, but that's on the way.Originally Posted by LuckyDog Trojan
Otherwise, MTW/VI (buy them together) is a good bet - like RTW and M2TW, it has a lot of variety in its campaigns. STW has very good battles, but more basic and less varied campaigns. With both of the older games, coming from RTW, it may take a while getting used to the older graphics and the Risk style map.
Also, don't forget the RTW mods. Rome Total Realism vastly improved RTW for me. The release of Europa Barbarorum 0.81 is just around the corner.
Finally, I personally have a soft spot for Barbarian Invasion. I just like the premise of shoring up a declining Roman Empire - the atmospheric opening movie is worth the price of admission to me. It also has some very nice mods - Goth mod and IBFD; I think RTR 7.0 will require it too.
does that mean if rtw works mtw2 will workOriginally Posted by econ21

Not necessarily, M2TW has higher system requirements. You can test if your PC meets the requirements by going to this website and choosing M2TW from the list of games:Originally Posted by oscarreeve
