WW2 total war games would hard to do. Other TW games are epic battles over large fields and walls. WW2 was urban; shooting from buildings, marching through the country side etc. Would be completely new.

WW1 TW would be dull. Sending 100's of troops over a field to get shot then the enemy doing the same until both sides are destroyed.

    Desperate Housewives Total War
This is one where I would put graphics ahead of realism

    STW(WE) + MI
MTW + VI (+ mods! Don't forget the mods! HTW, NTW, PMTW, XL, Samurai)
    RTW + BI

Gave up on RTW after a couple of months, though, I missed MTW too much!

I am sorry to say that I disagree. The problem with a WWI/II TW would be that there would be six units for every faction - tanks, gunners, machine gunners, planes, boats and U-Boats (WWII TW only). A little dull in my opinion - you need more variety to create interest and that is where you start to see fantasy units such as singing and screaming women on the battlefield.

Just a correction there Omanes; WW1 had very little in the way of major artillery and aircraft. It really was as simple as "going over the top", getting shot to death and then letting ze Germans do the same.

    I listed M:TW, M:TW-VI, R:TW, R:TW-BI, and M2:TW.

I first got into this series hearing through word of mouth about what a great game Medieval: Total War was, and I bought it and was quite impressed, growing very absorbed by that game. Consequently, I've collected each new game and watched the series grew in popularity. I didn't get a chance to buy Rome: Total War-Alexander, and Medieval 2 came out soon afterwards, so when I was in a position to get a new game, I opted for the newer one.

No, I always assumed it was my Nvidea card that gave me trouble. I can't run MTW either without using an old driver.
Maybe I'll browse through the Dojo and Apothecary later, can't hurt to give it a try.

I doubt it, but maybe you were having the same trouble I had with STW at first. I found that, without the patch, STW wouldn't load and play properly but with it, the game worked fine.

    César Victor, Oh contre'

WW 1, acutally was the first time in history that Major artillery groupings where used in a war.
And that is why ww1 is also Called, "The Artillery War".

10,000's of them on every side, from small bore 12pdr's to 14in and 16in mortars, in fact, in both ww1 and ww2 the biggest killer of any military equipment, was artillery.
The machine gun was nothing in ww1, when compared to artillery. And, the Tanks and panzers come near the end, believe it or not in ww2.

Quick note: each British Brigade had a Art Regiment Attached, 3 batt of 6 if i remember correctly. 2 or 3 bde's to a division. plus divisional artillery, then corps artillery. then siege park. So about 200 to 300 Artillery peices per Division. About 3 to 5 thousand per army, with out a Artillery Division included for attacks.
NOTE: All Figures are roughly correctly, as i cannot be bothered walking the 11 steps to my filing cabinets.

( Trivia Note: The british, under general haig actually acually developed "worm running", that is sort of like running in zig zag, as they didn't like their french commanders full frontal run straight assult idea.)

I forget the production figures, but British Empire, France and Germany, produced over 100,000 artillery peices each in ww1.

ww1 is a stand out, because of these, the first time to be used enmass.

And hence the name of WW1 is "The Artillery War".
    *****************************************************
    Aircraft,
    No one started off well,

    Aug 1914,
RAF (RFC = Royal Flying Corps)..... had about 200 Aircraft, and about 230 pilots. Plus about 90 in Royal Navy Fleet of Air Arm. Initially sent about 50 or 60 each to France with first BEF.
France.. about 140 Aircraft 220 pilots.
Germany... About about 245 Aircraft. Can't remember how many pilots.

No one else worth mentioning, as all had under 50 aircraft of all types.

7 months later in March 1915..All three had about 400 to 450 aircraft.

    Trivia
Pilots............the average life span of a pilot was 3 weeks.

Most production of all the different companies, in all three countires could produce about 50 to 150 aircraft a month.

Hence in June 1916 France alone had over 1120 Aircraft, That same month, Britian and france had 386 fighters, vs Germany's 129.

In sept 1916 the hindenburg program in Germany had been in effect, and begun to produce over 1050 aircraft per month. thats over 13000 a year.
You where saying about hardly any?

France actually produce far more than anyone, But only half of there planes ever got to the front for operational duties.

    fast forward here
    Aug 1917, France 2335 planes
    Britian 1890 Planes
    Germany 1200 Planes.

All three where producing aircraft at the rate of over 1200 aircraft per month. by june 1916.
So for 1917 alone...... thats about 15,000 aircraft each, or about 45,000 between the three.
Of course by this stage, Italy, USA, Austria, and Russia had all got in on the Act.

I don't know about You César Victor, but I reckon about 110k of aricraft in 1917 is a lot.

    Edit:
In 1918 Britian out stripped eveyone, they produce 32,000 Aircraft. And Winston Churchill was minister for Munitions.

I have ownd Medieval Total War and the Vikings Invasion expansion pack for some time now. I also had Rome Total War at one point but lost it. A couple of months ago, I went out and bought Total War Eras and got Medieval 2 Total War for Christmas (even though my machine doesn't run it well). So I've got the whole family of games...
