change in numbering sytem in order?

I know a lot of people (including me, at first) were and are put off by EB's name as a beta. People feel more comfortable with, for example RTR 6.0 because it sounds nicer/safer/more complete than EB .8. We can't just pull a u-turn on the naming system, but I had a quick idea: why not call 8.1 (or 8.5, as it's sometimes been called) 1.0? .8 is already as stable as most other mods, easily more balanced, and many times more intricate and fun (IMO). I know 8.1 will have all peasant skins gone and will have almost all the buildings ready. Why not call it "EB version 1.0" then add more info for the other factions. At this point, as I see it, EB is entering the final stages of development, which is where the fine-tuning and polishing comes in. The other updates will be "add-ons" working towards 2.0 or what have you, but what "beta" says is "I'm not ready!" but really, EB is super-ready and super-playable. 1.2 or 1.7 says "I'm ready and gettin' better" which is more accurate to EB.

So, what do you guys think? I might be wrong about how much work is left in the mod, and if people are ok with EB's name as a beta, I'll happily stand down. It's just a suggestion because, quite frankly, EB is already more of a mod than many others, easily on par with her #1 rival (friendly rival mind you) RTR in terms of stability and completion. (ok, EB is missing some unit cards, but RTR isn't very balanced--read: black plague, ie uberMacedon-- and has less units, so let's call it even) So why not eliminate that title, all it does is hurt EB's "sell-ability".

Well thats up to EB. EB can't call it 1.0 unless it has all it wants in the game. Then, they'll be able to put 1.2,1.3 and so forth.

If they did that, and EB knows it's still missing stuff, then they're lying. EB just cant do that to people, they'll lose respect.

Besides, who doesnt want to play EB2?

We had a long discussion about this in the past. A month or two ago. It's not that easy - there are pros and cons on each side. Is RTR 6.0 clearly finished KC? They aren't "lying" as you put it, by having that numbering system. We aren't sure what we are going to do yet - but no one will set the parameters or conditions other than us. If we agreed and wanted to call 0.81 1.0, we would, and anyone who didn't like it could go suck on a lemon. But we can't agree on it at this point, so we don't know what we will do. We keep referring to the next build as 0.81 for ease of reference, but you guys won't know the actual designation till it's released. Enjoy the mod and let us worry (and we have, do, and will

worry) about this particular situation.

No I was saying that if you guys made it 1.0 and know you weren't finished, that would be unfair(7.4=1.0? example only, not saying I havent heard of 0.8). But if you guys want to put 0.81 as 1.0 go ahead!

But really, the numbers are there to tell people if it's done or have been patched. Just make sure the bugs are gone, or else this will have to be fixed in 1.2,1.3,1.4 and so on.

It's fair to say we won't call something "1.0" unless it passes certain quality standards. But as for "complete"? There is no such thing. We go back and redo things that WORK, if we find a way to make them better.
