Okay maybe this wish would be to go to far, but any chance we could get the generals speeches before battle in original language?
Id love to hear some real sweboz nonsense! lol

Maybe we could, but what would be the point? Are you going to note it down, translate and giggle later?

It would be nice to read what the units actuallt say in battle when they not simply shout their name. Can I find these sentences somewhere?
You could turn subtitles on. Perhaps that is what you mean?
(Though these may be incorrect if the EB Voice Mods use different sentences than Vanilla and the subtitles haven't been updated.)

Do you know how much more work it would be to translate the speeches? My God, what an undertaking. And then record them? Yeah, it's doable, but would it sound good? Having the orders and voices of the units in the original languages is enough, in my opinion.
...
But if the speeches were in the original languages, coolness points would be had all around.
I mean, when I click on let's say leves they sometimes say "ave". Ok, that I understand. I know what word they are saying (i.e. ave). But when I for instance group units and command them forward the centurion (or whoever) might say a whole sentence or two. I don't want a translation (I can do that myself) but I'd like to know what words the voice is saying for me to analyse them.Originally Posted by Tellos Athenaios

Ancient Greek voicemod was started by Teleklos, continued by me and with the noble assistance of Tellos Athenaios we seek to bring it to a total immersion status. (Shigawhire's help and guidance was VERY helpful, as he leads the voicemod effort) It will take time however, and I must ask for patience. But, If you like what you heard so far, you will like the rest...
And if you want to laugh with it, knock yourself out...![]()
However, before even beginning to look at that direction, there's alot of research to be made...
Most of what you heard were on loan from Xenophon and his Anabassis. Pre-Battle speeches will be based again on Xeno but more on Arrian. Even if he wrote the book on Alexander 400 yrs later (everyone agrees is the best of them all), he is more epic on his text, more goal driven...,
Xenophon on the other hand, in the ancient text, reads like an AAR. Like he is closing his eyes and remembering what exactly happened. Textbook Merc.
So, you can understand why I will be going by Arrian this time around.

Intro translations might turn out to be completed faster than the battle event ones (there are fewer sentences to be done), but the real issue is we don't exactly know how the engine picks it's intro's, and thus neither how we have to arrange the sentences to make them be picked at the right time only.
Most of the work will therefore be all sorts of (play)testing, and a bit data gathering stuff. (How are certain people called in ancient Greek - the Sweboz for example, or the Saka.)
And if only we could have those vanilla "guideline speeches" translated and working...
PS: Has anyone actually heard such sentences - those like "we should slaughter them from a distance" when you're fielding lots of archers - when playing EB 0.8? If so, then we might not need to play around with the Vanilla packs... (And that probably will save considerable time.)

If you guys really wanted to be jerks, you could translate the entire game into the original languages.
...
It wouldn't be a big deal for me (at least as the Romans or Greeks), and it would definitely help me study for my language qualifiers.

I don't think it's a good idea, the languages spoken aren't widespread, some not spoken, so it would be pointless to translate a speech into something nobody will understand.

As for time spent, well, I believe it will be worth it. Not to mention the fact that it will take A LOT of time to do all the research required. It is not something that can or will happen overnight. Remember how long it took EB to have Ancient Greek being heard in the first place.
As for translating the whole game in Ancient Greek, now THAT would be pointless. All other voicemod work, just increases immersion.
