Default Movement problem in EB 0.8

    Hi.
I just started to enjoy EB. I love that you really have to work at the battles, now. Even skirmishers are no pushovers anymore - quite the contrary.

I am playing Qart Hadastim and the danged Ptolemaioi decided to lay siege to an outlying fort in Kyrene with a solitary unit in it. I sent a relief army, but for the life of me can not get to the spot indicated by the arrow. No matter how gently I move the mouse in the area, I can't get a green broken circle to enable my unit to move there. I think that some of the units and cities have a 'sensitivity field' around them that may be a bit big. Is this anything that the EB team can tackle or is it hard coded?

    Screen capture:

The relief army is just north of the spot and as indicated should be able to move adjacent to the ptolemaioi army and the fort.

Sometimes you can get it to go to that spot next to the sieged city, but it's not easy. Your options are: select siege city, then it will move in and go to a tile adjacent to the city, but it might not be the one you wanted. Or you can zoom the map out and try to select that tile that way (select your army to go to that tile I should say). Sometimes that works. It probably has something to do with the siege graphics we have, but I'm not certain. It doesn't seem to be a problem too often, but I understand what you are saying, and it does pose a problem sometimes. Try one of these two things I mentioned though - I'm sure your second army can make it there, it just might take some work to get it right on the right spot.

    Hi Teleklos.

I can't lay siege to my own fort... It's the enemy who is laying siege and i want to place the relief army next to the fort to drive the backstabbers off (they were allied up to this point)

Oh, and I've tried zooming, moving to each edge of the screen, etc. I just can't for the life of me get the green movement cursor.

Just move into the red space. After that you'll be able to attack.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Can you not just attack the enemy army? If the terrain is narrow, it just might be that, but can't say for sure. I doubt you will be able to get your army right up next to the sieged fort.

BTW, I'll move this to the bug forum if you don't mind.

That is exactly my problem. I can't move there. The green cricle that indicates a desired move does not even come up.

Please save the game at the exact place you show in the graphic and post it so we can look into it (you can use a free file upload service like Axifile). The graphic is helpful, but that is not enough for us to figure out what's going on.

Errm.. Not really possible. I just used my diplomat to diffuse the situation, but next turn Ptolemaioi decided that they did not want peace and attacked another settlement (and were soundly driven off)

HOWEVER!!! I have a similar problem, where Kyrene is under siege and the army from the fort can't get near the city. The green circle will not show any closer than 1.5 squares from the city. This time I have a save file, and can Email it to you, if you can drop me your Email address.

It's best to just upload it - that way others can take a look at it too:

(it's a free service, you don't have to sign up or anything, just upload the file and post the link here)

I have the same problem, it's most likely caused by the siege graphics. In a situation like the one in the picture, you could get your army to the desired square by attacking the Ptolemaic army, then clicking on the white flag (withdraw) when the battle screen pops up.

I have come across another problem...

I bribed a ptolemaian family member in the desert south east of Kyrene. That part went well. Problem is: He can't move. He has no movement points. I click on him and there is no green area around him whatsoever. I've got a save file, if needed. I put him in a fort, since that doesn't cost anything. No change. Still paralytic.

The siege graphics is doing this, I'm pretty certain. Wherever you try to point, the city is selected rather than the tile next to it because the graphics is so much broader than the usual pointy sticks. It's worked that way at least since I first tried in 0.72, and I thought this was on purpose to force people to attack the besieging army rather than "passively" reinforce the garrison by putting them outside, ready to run in when it is assaulted. I don't mind.

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

He could be an immobile rebel - that was bribed by the ptolemies. We have a handful of immobile rebels in places, but that one was once the guy inside the town of chora blemmyon. The town got moved and isn't rebel anymore, but the rebel has a wife and is in the family tree for rebels, so we didn't get rid of him. There should be tough rebels there, causing problems if you try to root them out, so we just left him immobile.

    An immobile rebel!!!

So both the Ptolemaians and I fell for it. Man, do I feel stupid. Perhaps with some luck, he will get married and have a couple of young'ns.

Well, I got 7 skirmishers out of the expensive deal.
