Question Kicking people off your land - diplomatically

G'day everyone. I'm enjoying playing M2TW at the moment - I've been a fan of the series since MTW, and I also enjoyed RTW.

I had a question - does anyone know of a way to "encourage" other armies to get off your land without actually having to go to war with them? I've played the Civ series of games and there was a diplomatic option to demand that someone withdraw their troops. At the moment I'm playing as the Danes and there's an HRE army sitting very near Hamburg, in my territory, and I can't work out a way to get them to leave, short of attacking them (in which case I will probably get excommunicated by the Pope, or have my reputation take a hit).

    Any suggestions?

Well first off, you can see HRE's intentions by entering in diplomacy with them and offering mutual military access. If the offer is very demanding, then it's war (if allied, see if canceling an alliance is very generous. Also war).

Aside from that, no, there is no diplomatic way to ask them to leave.

I think the only way is bribing those armies, it might be quite costly, or may be assasinate the head of the army if it was a general for example

Also, moving a large stack of your troops next to that army will make it either attack you or retreat (most of the time)

Sometimes they retreat though. I keep some elite armies around just to scare off opportunistic invaders like that.

the simplest way seem to be getting one of your own armies close by. they will either attack or move somewhere else. having a large stack in the city doesnt help. the army might camp right outside yur city and do nothing for tens of turns.

i dont like attacking them since it will be a drop in my rep. i wish there was a way to ask them to elave or declare war without getting the reputation hit.

All that aside, I'd like to see a diplomacy option at some point that says "Get Yer @$$ off my land or I will clobber you!"

    But perhaps worded more diplomatically.

Yea Bro, just park a army of yours next to them and they will pull back or attack. Send a Emissary over to to see whats up. (early) Playing as ENG. I chased the French army's off my land then set a few of my army's up on the border in ambush position and they never came back. You can also march a stack right down to their city and park it that usually gets them out of there the next turn and you will not get chastised by them or the pope because you will move them back the next turn too. Game needs a diplomatic scroll saying "Get off my Land" or "What is your intentions".

I think there is a way to do that already but in a more polite way, you send a diplomat to the faction that has the army on your land, you make a single payment to them and it they have the intension of attacking you they will offer not to attack you, so i guess they will just retreat

Yes, something like this would be perfect - that way if they don't do as you demand they'll be the ones to take the hit.

And the way you worded it was just fine, I reckon.

I remember back when playing RTW, I was asked to leave a province by the AI. Was this a feature for RTW that's no longer available in M2TW? As you can see I don't use diplomats too much.

And what if the AI agreed to this and then didn't remove it's troops? Bug? The AI intentially lying to you? Automatic state of War?

The diplomacy in MTW2 is in the actions more than the dialog. As the Turks, I had the Egyptians park their army right outside the gates of Mosul. Indefinitely! Finally, after about 30 turns, they left, but by then I had bigger problems from the Mongols to attend to. The diplomatic message I got was something like "one false move and Mosul is ours my friend." In this game I trust my intuition.
