Thread: A permit request

    Default A permit request

I enjoy EB very much - thank you guys for creating such a great mod . But currently I'm working on making some Civ 4 units for a mod. Using your textures as source files would allow me to vastly increase the quality of some - at least hoplites I'm currently working on. Although I'd absolutely understand your denial, permission to use EB textures would bring me lots of joy. Thank you very much for your time.

I don't think we've ever had a request for skins for the mod of another game. We'll have a little discussion and get back to you.

Personally I've no idea what they would look like in a civ 4 game. Could you post a screenshot or two of similar units or how they would look when used that way?

The textures aren't directly compatible, as models used by Civ 4 are much more primitive. I would just use fragments of EB textures (shield patterns, for example, or scale mail pieces; basically as clipart), to create new textures. This is an example of a user-made unit.

As you can see, overall polygone count is quite low, as is texture resolution (128x128).

I'd hate to persist, but I would very much like to hear a definite answer. Thank you.

That was yesterday mate. Give us enough time to discuss it.

Heh. Funny thing is, I was just going to ask if I could use the EB units for conversion for Civilization III. I have already gotten permission from the RTR peeps and have converted a few units as is.

So if you are in discussion mode for the OP request, maybe you could contemplate mine as well?

We have some concerns with the idea. We are talking it over.

Additionally, requests for various things should be made by PM to team members, typically khelvan, Kull, Aymar, or Teleklos Archelaou, who can forward your request to the attention of the team. If you post something in the public forum it might get overlooked, so PM is the best way to go.

Usually you can expect a week or so before you have any answer - if it's a new type of request (such as textures for Civ IV), then a lot of people have to weigh in on various matters and it could take a little bit to hear anything back. Expecting less than a day's turnaround is not realistic.

Sorry, I tended to underestimate the scope of EB. When mod team is 4 people (like in our case), decisions tend to be somewhat quicker.
