The secret (or maybe not) to these guys is that they're attracted to places with moderate to high heressy. I have never had inquisitors on my lands because I make sure to build churches and have plenty of priests around to keep my population religiously proper. I'm currently playing with Spain so I'm right next door to France where I can see the Inquisitors going wild, however, they never ever cross over to my lands.

But if you conquer France's lands, the Inquisitors will see you as fair game---they don't see you as being separate from those heretical Frenchmen. So before you invade France (should you wish to do so), send in some cardinals to kill the heretics and encourage the Inquisitors to move on to other areas first.

I'm really annoyed at the Inquisitors right now. I am really short of Generals, and I needed to send another General to the new world. I chose a young General (only 17) who had loads of really good traits. I sent him down to Cordoba to go onto the next fleet preparing to Go to America, but the turn before I could have loaded him a flipin inquisitor decided to burn him and now Im even more desperatly short of Generals.

    Darn it!

A lot of people have expressed very negative views toward inquisitors, and several times I've seen people asking if there's any way to remove them from the game. There in fact might be.

The descr_campaign_db.xml file has a couple interesting options in the <religion> section. Try fooling with these:

    max_inquisitors_per_region
    max_inquisitors
    inquisitor_creation_modifier

I'm betting if you set the first two to 0, it becomes impossible for the game to spawn any inquisitors. The third one likely modifies the base chance to spawn inquisitors, so it couldn't hurt to set it to zero either. Coincidentally you can also try just lowering max_inquisitors and inquisitor_creation_modifier if you want less inquisitors instead of none.
