Using Modem + Sound Card = Blue Screen of Death

I have 56k modem and Audigy sound card. Everytime I connected to the internet and use any sound-producing software (Winamp, DVD, games, etc) my PC will instantly crash. However, when I switch to using on-built motherboard audio, things will just go smooth, no crash, no annoyances. But when I switch back using sound card, tadaa! Blue screen again! Seems like there's conflict of interest between the two Anyway here's what I have done, and ultimately failed:
- Switch the position of modem (PCI)
- Switch the position of the Audigy sound card
- Switch both
- Turning off modem sound
- Trying to install latest driver (this one even cause my Windows to die...)

And here's my spec:

Windows XP Pro SP2
Pentium 4 2600 MHz
1 GB RAM
Audigy sound card (duh)
HIS X800 PRO Radeon
DirectX 9.0c

Have you checked in device manager? Are any resource conflicts apparent? (conflicts with those few devices on a newish machine running XP, are highly unlikely). I would say it could be a driver bug. Have you tried installing the soundcard alone with the lates drivers, and then downloading a different generic driver for the modem and installing that afterwards?

Did you check in your BIOs setup to see if any resources might be reserved?

Try to identify the modem chipset exactly, if you post it up here and any other info you can find on the board I'll try and find you a driver. Also which audigy is it, there are several different kinds? Creative Labs drivers are notorious for being bloated and buggy.

Yes, it caused my PC to die soon after...not the best solution I think...

Not sure what that means, I did check BIOS several times though to turn off/on the on-board audio just to see how it effects the system, but still.

Yeah, notorious too for killing my PC...it's Sound Blaster Audigy (not version 2 a.k.a SB Audigy 2). Those drivers in Creative Labs website can be quite misleading, sometimes they don't even recognize my own sound card...

Indentification. Google the part number and ensure you know exactly which card it is. You say they sometimes don't recognise the card at all? Is this when you're trying to install or just randomly after rebooting, once the driver has already been installed?

It only recognized my sound card with fresh driver (the one in CD that came with the box), but once I updated it with drivers (I mean every available driver related to my Sound Blaster Audigy) from Creative website, it suddenly didn't recognize my sound card at all! No matter how many times I reboot, it looked like they had amnesia or something. Worse, my modem BSOD problem still exist. I read that some folks on other tech support forum have similiar problem and had no solution too.

Anyway, here's info about my sound card driver (I got it from Device Manager):

Driver Provider: CREATIVE
Driver Date : 7/8/2005
Driver Version : 5.12.1.512
Driver Signer : Microsoft Windows Hardware......(you know the rest)

Note that it was fresh driver from CD

Can you remove the card from your system and try to identify the exact model, revision etc by googling the part number on the card?
