    D-Link DFM-5621S/SG, based on Connexant CX11252-41Z chipset. That winmodem is supported natively by XP and unlikely to be the problem. The soundcard is probably where you need to be looking, not the modem.

    I'm assuming, from your previous posts, that the soundcard works fine with the modem removed?

    Yes, that's true. I'll take a look at the sound card and report it later.

    Have you tried switching the cards around in various PCI slots? They're not all equal, an some cards (think Creative) are pickier about slots than others.
