Timurids

hi, I've been playing M2:TW for some time now and I'm almost ready to destroy the Mongols (what's left of them) where, and when do the Timurids come from? and any advice against their cannon armed Elephants? are they a threat? and are there any specific things I should do to them to win such as bridge battles?

They arrive in the Baghdad area or around there. You really need more advanced artillery to face them... culverin, baselisk, serpentine, etc are decent choices.

If you have cannon towers (and the fix/mod to allow them to work), they aren't such a big deal. Sallying against the Timurids and making sure all the towers facing them are manned is quite entertaining. After losing enough, the elephant units start to rampage. Sit back with some popcorn while your towers drive the sieging elephants into stomping on their own infantry.

I once killed over 500 Timurid soldiers in one shot. They were assaulting my city and had a team of elephants at the head of a huge infantry column, apparently to be used as shock troops to clear the way in once the gate was down. Good tactic right? I opened the gate sending out a Monster Bombard. It fired ONE SHOT that hit the elephants and killed several... the rest went nuts and ran straight away from the gun... right over all their infantry. 1000+ Timurid troops, and they lost over half with my first move.

I have more fun fighting the Timurids than anyone else...

BTW, you can buy your own elephant units as mercs in Baghdad and surrounding regions.
