Thread: "Looking forward to.."

    Default "Looking forward to.."

    I'm just wondering about this thing..

    Has anyone else here got to the point, where his feelings about games are really nothing.. But boredom. I'm not "excited" about getting any game.. Or even playing any I have.. Why?

    The only exception to that rule is Defence of the Ancients.. Nothing's better than having an evening with friends living far away pwnting/getting pwnt along with them..

    The only reasons I can have are simply..

    1) Other games that are SP oriented get boring just quickly.. Beating something isn't fun at all. Beating someone can be fun though. (To see the reaction and the way they adapt to try and not let you beat them again)

    2) Games that include Multiplayer, and are strategically oriented, often come down to a set of "best" armies or "best" tactics.. Varying from rush tactics to whatever..

    3) Games that include Multiplayer, but are FPS, usually come down to the dude with the better ping.. I mean.. My ping would at least be 200 to any available server in any available game.. Suck aaha?

    4) Games the include "exploitable" Multiplayer.. There is just no fun in being killed in CS by someone throwing a bomb through a glitch in the map..

    5) Games that don't have any of those, and are fun (Total War) usually end up with "very hard to set it up a game it gets frusterating" attidue. That is, considering the huge number of games set up by "noobs" setting denarii to 100k.. I mean come on! (I couldn't really care less.. All I'm asking for is having a fun game.. But then.. It lags, someone drops out.. etc..)

    6) I just feel it is silly to spend a huge effort on having a nice game.. I mean, 60 minutes for 10 minutes is a very bad investment. I'd rather chat with some friends, go out, have a blast and then get on the TV for a bit.. More fun.

    Are those "issues" being faced by everyone? Or just me? And if you do face them.. How do you get over them?

    Finding a new game that takes your fancy is your best bet.

    That said, if you like DotA (and i'm not going to ask why, as i'm sure i couldn't understand it even if you explained ) you might like to try WoW.

    Seriously.

    You're not going to beat it quickly, and there's no real reason to play a cookie cutter class, so you could just do it fo fun I said fun in the same sentence as WoW - i need to check my sanity :P

    WoW.. My goal in life aint beating monsters the respawn every.. Dnno! In DotA at least creeps spawn every 30 seconds!

    No really.. I play DotA like once a week or so.. Not so pattionate about that I guess. It's a game that requires team work to excel, balanced and easy to set up, with no "defined" strategy that always does the best. That's basicaly all you can ask from a game. (You can replace game with map if you want )

    There's a game in 'Planning' called Medieval Kingdoms, being produced by a Norwegian company called Running Games. They've said very little about it to date, but the ideas they've sent bouncing around are certainly interesting.

    True gems are rare. I hope Bioshock will be one of these rare gems, and I am pretty confident that surpreme commander will keep me busy for a while.

    @fragony - i don't know about bioshock, but this year has supcom, portal, ep2 and possibly stalker going for it, so it can't be all bad

    I know what you mean, x-dANGEr. I've had that for a long time, but this year some good new stuff is going to come out, I bet. Supreme Commander, like Fragony said, for instance. Howsabout C&C3, and World in Conflict? Or Crysis, with Crytek's new Cry Engine 2 that's gonna grab you by the balls :P

    There are even more to name. Just look around, there gotta be something that fits your needs.

    @Bijo: Graphics don't make a game.. At least, not a true one. I mean, I'm not going to keep playing a game because it has beautiful graphics.. I already mentioned the elements that would make a good game for me (Above), and anygame that doesn't have them is simply.. Not enough. Sure, you can have fun with it for a couple of months, but you'll get over it in no time, that is if you ever get in it. (As in addicted to it )

    Well, I didn't mean to say graphics would make a game. You are right, and that's how I think too myself. But Crysis will definitely have some good gameplay to come

    Spore (premise) and Indiana Jones (technology) are also games to watch this year.

    He is referring to games where there is a strategy that can only be beaten by using that same strategy yourself.

    Pirates of the Burning Sea is on my radar - looking forward to june (that is if they launch it to the gaming communities 2nd class citizens (europe) at the same time)

    I have to say that a sp game won't make me bored as long as it has a good story. Like right now, i'm playing through GTA Vice City for the first time, and i'm enjoying it. The story is pretty interesting and keeps me going.

    Or if a game has something to work for and is genuinely fun, like BF2 - i want the L96A1 sniper rifle, and i will have it!

    Yeah, I gotta agree with that. If a game has a good story, it'll keep my attention (but the rest should be good too, of course). GTA VC is GREAT. Ah, the joy I've had with it. That one character, I forgot the name, that you meet in the beginning, has got a cool voice and way of doing Made me crack up bad.

    Yeap. Especially when everyone uses those "tactics" and the only way to beat them is by using them.. Which as I already said makes the game a "mirror-battle". Try playing some professional Warcraft and you'll see what I'm talking about.. (Barracks, train, hero, gain XP, keep picking on enemy.. All though is based on "rush")

    That's a very good sniper rifle, although often you'll pine for the m29 when a chopper flies by

    Mass Effect looks like it'll be great, as do Hellgate and Jade Empires for PC. But most of all I'm looking forward to EB being finished, since my computer can handle it and it's already provided me with a lot of entertainment.

    Indiana Jones???? You've gotta be kidding me. I hope it won't be a bad one this time. I recall some previous Jones games that were kinda mediocre, or worse, but it's too long ago to even remember 'em.

    I guess the new one won't be anything like it, but Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis is one of my all time favourites; in fact, after finishing the first two Monkey Island games I've recently started on this one again, and it's just as great as ever.

    You know, the only upcoming game I can get excited about is Spore, but that's many months away so pretty much nothing interesting on the gaming front.

    Ah, the point-and-click adventure, right? I remember that. It was great, but I also remember the part where I got stuck.
