Default Problem with changing unit voices - deleting events.dat doesn't help

Having added a new unit to the game (RTW Gold edition) I am now trying to associate a sound with them so that when selected, they respond.

I wanted them to use the same sounds as the archers used by Numidia, so I found their entry in export_descr_sounds_units_voice.txt and copied it under the name of my new unit (the name it has in export_descr_unit.txt). It doesn't work, and the unit is still silent.

Of the few threads I was able to find about changing unit voices, most suggested deleting events.dat from the sound folder. I did, but it has made absolutely no difference. I also deleted events.idx, but again with no result. Deleting voice1.dat or voice1.idx causes the game to hang.

To check that I hadn't just made a mistake with the unit name, I edited export_descr_sounds_units_voice.txt again to change the confirmation phrases said by Poeni Infantry, so that they would respond like Egyptian Chariots. No effect. This is with events.dat deleted.

Does anyone know how on earth to get new unit sounds working? I don't even want to use new sounds, just the old ones for a new unit!

Hmm in EDU the type of voice is specified, make sure you gave the unit response code in right place, so.. if unit is labeled as 'light_1' you must place your entry under 'light_1' group ;)
