Thread: Guess some of the new EB buildings

Default Guess some of the new EB buildings

Sorry, no real motivation to post new unit images right now . But this was posted a few days ago on the internal forum: some new buildings graphics for EB. They won't all be in 0.81 though, we are totally reshuffling our unique buildings internal positions and names (a big hassle, but for a big payoff) and opening up a new complex for uniques too that will let more uniques into the build.

So, here are the questions for these: what are they and where will they be found? Some are uniques, some are just regular buildings. Some are easy, some are hard, some are really difficult, but are the best we could do for the "building". When all six are guessed, I might put a 7th up there too as a "reward".

    1. Shamiram-su (Gazius)
    2. Carthaginian Commemorative/Funerary Monument (hoom)
    3. Drynemeton at Ankyra (cezarip)
    4. Tushpa, in Hayasdan
    5. Eastern Field of Games (k_raso)
    6. Paestum Temple Complex (HumphreysCraig00)

All I know is that six is probably a unique temple building.

I'm afraid I must take issue with the first image. My sources clearly indicate that the waterway was 107.862 metres across, whereas your image suggests something in the region of 107.214.

    Sorry, couldn't resist!

Seriously though, wonderful work as usual by whoever has done these. Can't wait to start a .81 campaign and savour the immersion.

I'll only hazard a wild guess at number 3 - could it be that sacred wood somewhere in the lands of the Sweboz where their priestesses/seers dwell?

    1. Ptolemaic - Nile irrigation channels
    2. Bactria - Buddhism or Hindu temple
    3. Aedui, Averni - Sacred Forest of the Druids
    4. Bartix- Ancient Sacred Hidden city
    5. Nomads- Oasis. Next oasis 500 km so fight for it (ok that was a lame joke)
6- Koinon Hellenon - Temple of Castor and Pollux.

1ª) I`ll follow that that`s a ptolemaic irrigation system. Perhaps, a "very productive ptolemaic farm" or something?

    2º) Not a clue.

3º) The sacred carnute woods in Cenabum. (The woods of Fangorn)

4º) Pontic royal tombs in Amaseia.

    5º) Pahlavan field of games.

6º) A greek temple, but I don`t recall which one may be.

    *random post*
Nº2 looks like the folly on the hill overlooking Bath. I used to be able to see it from across the valley when I lived there...
(edit: this is merely an observation, not a suggestion! I can see that the landscape is obviously not the westcountry, and the tower above Bath is probably no more than 200 years old)

Could Nº4 be the rock of Gibraltar?

Let me guess, you won't release 0.81 until we get them all, right?

No! We'll never see the patch! Alas, I'm afraid I can't identify a single one of those unique buildings!

Well, k_raso basically got #5 right. It's the eastern field of games (and will be the Carthaginian one till a better one is created), and thus obviously not one of the uniques. None of the others are that close, except that Barbarosa and Eduoris both got close on one, but they guessed by far the wrong part of the map on it.

I figured someone would have seen those things in #2 before.

Does that refer to me? The thing I saw is no way ancient. Its simply a fashion statement by some rich landowner. Random towers were for some reason quite popular on country estates, to look at the views I guess.

I would hazard that your tower is some kind of shrine, possibly Saba, going by the palm trees...

    My guesses:
1- The building card picture makes it looks more like a navigational canal than an irragation canal... Though the description picture looks like tiny unimportant ditch...
2- Something Indian... though the landscape looks Syrian...
3- Some sort of northern black forest.
4- It looks like a western town below the mountain... granite looking... I don't know.
5- Has been guessed. Is that the Afganistan goat skin game they're playing?
    6- Agrigento

Wasnt there a navigable canal between the nile and the red sea? Perhaps 1 is that.

    1) Nile-Red Sea canal
    2) Alex's monument to Zeus in India?
    3) I like the Fangorn Forest interpretation
    4) Petra
    5) Ammonion at Siwa
    6) New version of Olympia?

Marcus is on the right track with #6 (but doesn't have it right).

#1 isn't in Egypt, maybe if you hopped in a van and tried to drive there you'd make it in a week though.

So is it "Temple E" from that town that escapes me near Agrigento?

    EDIT: Selinous/Selinunte?

Sorry, I don't have any idea or the time to figure it out. But I did want to stop in this thread and say:

    Not *that* close Marcus.

Gruffy - in the game the icons will be half the size of those, so they don't look as good really, but they are put together at 4X the size they are in-game, so the detail here is 2X and it looks a lot more detailed than the way you're used to seeing them. I haven't checked out MTW2 on this yet - I'd guess they (building icons) probably are the same old size still.

Here's another hint: 1 and 4 are in the same province.

Could #1 be the River Jordan, and #4 the fortress/city that the Romans besieged in Judea in the 1st century (can't remember the exact name, and wiki has failed me )

Sorry eru. It is a canal, but not in that province.

  23. #23

Default Re: Guess some of the new EB buildings

    1) is a canal from Nile to Red Sea! :-D

    2) is a Buddhist Stupa, I suspect in the Indian provinces.

    4) is one of the old Egyptian Nubian fortresses, a sign of Pharoah's power.

The ramparts/walls in #4 look eastern to me, but due to a total lack of knowedge there I have no idea where.

#2 is Carthaginian I think, can't remember where I have seen that though.
Edit: here's a pic of same but its named 'phoenician' so could be over by Tyre/Sidon way
    I'd say a Carthaginian shrine.

#6 are the temples of Hera & Concordia at Agrigento

Oh, OK. I'll take one stab since I don't think I've seen this proposed.

#4, right off the bat, looks perhaps like the burial mountain for the Kings of Persia (don't remember the name to be honest.) You know, the one that Darius never quite made it to because he was defeated by Alexander.

The last one looks like that place in Greece, with something dedicated to Asklepion in the area. Forgotten what the exact name was. And number four, is it Syracuse?

I think that three could perhaps be a Sacred Grove of the Druids. Other than that I have no idea.
