    Hi again loyque,
Fate and lottrbacchus are right. You can see if a city is on the verge of rioting/revolt if:

The best way to keep a city in order is:
    • Reduce the tax rate to low - this increases public order by 30% although on the down side it reduces your tax income from this province.
    • Send more troops to the city to stop further dissent. More troops threaten the city's inhabitants to stop rioting!
    • Send a governor with higher influence levels. This can cause a 5% increase in public order per influence point.
    • If time permits you can build building which have a positive effect on law, happiness and health.
    • Exterminate large cities on occupation. This removes squalor and helps keep everybody happier.
    • Destroy the other religious buildings in the provinces and build your faction's temples as fast as you can! This should reduce unrest caused by different religions. Don't worry yourself if the city riots while you get the temples running. All dissent should be quelled by the time you get to a high enough level of temple and everybody is converted.
You can tell if a city is going to revolt if:
    • There is a blue face on the city on the strategy map. Now is the time to take preliminary action. Build buildings that have a positive effect on public order and draft in a few more troops to keep the order on yellow.
    • There is a red face on the city on strategy map. Now is the time to take urgent action. Lower the tax rate and bring in some troops.
    • There is a red face and next to it is a pitchfork surrounded by fire. In this case get in as many troops as possible into the province. Try to maintain order by lowering the tax rate as far as possible and drafting in as many troops as you can. If you can't hold it then just abandon it and attack it again later. Then you can exterminate the place.
    Good luck with your rebellions!

    Hi again,
All you have to do is click on the "building" tab when a city is selected. Then right click on a building icon of a church (this is a building with a brown roof and stone walls). This should open up a scroll showing you the information about the building. On the bottom left of a scroll there should be a button. Click on it and the building will collapse and be destroyed. Then double click on the city you have selected. Then click on the "build" tab. Then build a Shrine of Zoroastrianism. This should last two turns to build. When it is complete, build the next level up - a Temple of Zoroastrianism, then a Large Temple of Zoroastrianism. Continue building temples till you can build no more. It is essential that settlements are converted quickly to avoid the locals getting angry at their conversion.

I find the need to take action while it is at blue quite unnecessary. The public order would be around 80-90%, and you are quite far from rebellion or revolt. If it goes from Green to blue in one fell swoop, check if there is a spy in there from another faction. They lower public order. If there isn't, do as Omanes does and build buildings that increase public order, train some peasants(I personally don't like peasants, but they make good garrison units in a pinch.)

If it red, you are probably from 70-80%. Still no need to worry, as a revolt starts at 65%, but you might want to train a few extra garrison units, and get a good manager in there.

I have noticed though, sometimes if you are at a rebellious stage, or very close, and you destroy a high level religious(?) building of another faction, the order will go down alot. So wait until the rebellion has cooled over before destroying the religious building.

    Goog luck.

ps. if that sounds like I am saying that what omanes said is stoopid, because it is not, I am sorry. I just had to add my two cents.

    Hi,
I always take action on "blue" due to the fact that the city will be growing and squalor will be going up. This combined with other factors can cause a city to go from blue to red and rioting within two turns. The sooner you act - the better, especially if the city is large sized.

I am sorry to say that I disagree. In Barbarian Invasion peasants are the one of the worst possible garrison troops as they have the least effect on public order due to the "peasant" attribute. Unfortunately, this causes them to have about half the effect on public order than other non-peasant units. Cheers!

Hello Loyqe welcome to the forum and to BI.

Is this one of your first games of RTW ? If so you have picked a faction with some of the most powerful troops...the Sassinads Immortals. They really kick butt. Good choice.

However...you have a really tricky problem. Antioch is Christian and with a very big population as well. You want to convert it. If you follow the advice above it will convert...but not before you have riots and rebellions. Its a real tough one.

Sassinad were my previous campaign. The sequence I followed was:
    - capture then exterminate the population
    - build execution sq
    - whilst execution sq is building recruit big manpower units. Expand garrison quickly.
    - Once the execution sq was done the unrest in the town will have dropped for three reasons 1) Execution Sq 2) Time has passed since capture 3) Bigger garrison
    - Then Demolish Christian church and build your best shrine/temple in its place.

This screenshot was made up of the various factors to consider.

In summary you have to delay conversion a short while whilst you get public order under control. Especially on very hard difficulty.

    Good luck

i read somewhere that peasants were still the cheapest public order units in b.i. even with the peasant attribute? i'm not playing b.i. till i get bored of vanilla, so..

here's my take on destroying temples and other buildings from the other culture:
i rarely destroy the existing temple when i first take a city. in fact, it is usually the last to go. why? because i usually exterminate the population so the place isn't going to make it to the next level of city for quite a while so their temple usually gives quite a good public order bonus while only representing 1 building for cultural difference.

you can't upgrade the governor's house, farms, roads or mines until you build the population to bigger than it was when you take it, so those are all also cultural penalties. so i destroy all the other buildings and then start building up troop production buildings (archery ranges, stables, etc) so they can begin countering the cultural effect while i still get the bonus from the existing temple.

since you can only build one building at a time, what is the point of taking out something that might give you, say, a +20 public order with the same cultural penalty that a stables would?

    Hi lottrbacchus,
I destroy the other religious building when my faction's religion is different from it, because it provides an awful 15% penalty. It unfortunately adds +5% to religious unrest due to the governor having a different religion and +10% to religious unrest because the faction leader has a different religion. If you destroy it then the city instantly becomes unhappy as the governor's/faction leader's religion, which is different to the whole of the cities population, becomes the official religion. Riots will most certainly start, but it is worth it once you have finished. Once the whole city is converted it makes the city much easier to control - you still get good temple bonuses and you lose 15% unrest at the same time. You also lose all the nasty unrest that was gained from destroying the original temple building and help border provinces convert to your faith too. This can cause large amounts of unrest in bordering enemy provinces and reduction in "heretical" unrest causing faith in yours. I hope this help you. Cheers!
