They say they weren't trying to compel her to do it, just show her what it was. So they obviously pretended to not enjoy it, they obviously did it with no passion, and obviously screamed in horror and pain and maybe slapped each other around afterwards to show the child that sex is bad, bad, bad.

And here I thought seeing the naked bodies of my parents was traumatic.....I couldn't imagine seeing the ole bulldog eating mayonnaise, my god, poor kid

So effing what ? You think farmers in medieval times had sex in private ? You think farmers/poor people in third world countries have much privacy ? I've been to a real Cuban farm, the walls were made of paper and had a lot of holes...

If they forced the child to watch then it's quite obviously wrong, if they just let her, so effing what ?

I'm inclined to agree here with this, but...

    Tito:

Your a scamp, a rable-rouser, and possess a veering sense of humor.

    Kudos to you sir.

    Doc_:

Chill pill brother. Most cultures that have a bit more space-per-person don't do the adult play thing in front of the child. Either the child doesn't understand -- and it would mean little to them and be a waste of time -- or they do understand and they're forced to confront issues that implicitly involve them. In cultures where less privacy is possible, the rules are of course different.

Isn't anyone going to speak in favour of home skooling ?
After all there are plenty who object to the education authorities deciding what , when and how their kids are taught about sex .

    Why would anyone do that?
I myself am in favour of public schools, sex is a natural thing(though I still wouldn't want to watch my parents...) and authorities are called authorities because they have a certain authority.
I would only see a problem if they did anything to encourage her to have sex at the age of 9, arguably letting her witness it and the joy that comes with it does exactly that.

And doc, in medieval times they also threw their faeces onto the street, should we adapt that as well because it was so much better back then?

Cultural diversity is a great thing. So is parental guidance on sex education for their children. However, in this case, the parents are certainly not acting within this culture's norms. They are merely being put on notice to "alter the lesson plan" a bit. The ex-husband, judge, and community are showing reasonable concern for the welfare of this child.

Knowing children's propensity for innocently saying the darnedest things at the most inconvenient ocassions. Social gatherings that may include any implied or alluded reference to intimacy or babies etc. could be quite amusing when this one decides to chime in with her new found explicit knowledge on the subject. Boy, will grandma be surprised...

As if tv shows/mtv clips/pop songs etc. are so subtle these days. All kids here are rumours and bragging about sex from celebrities, as if the image they get that way is healthy. While I don't actually support having sex in front of children (I'm pretty indifferent, though slightly leaning to 'it should be avoided') the cultural norms are ridicoulous. Kids hear about sex every single day, multiple times, they see it simulated in movies and video clips, they can see porn stars getting it on on the 'net (seriously, just try to shield a kid from that these days), but suddenly two normal people having, what i assume to be 'normal', sex where a kid can see it is a reason for sentencing ? Talk about hypocrisy.

I was educated by the evil godless government in a humanistic high school but remained a straight christian nonetheless. Kinda scary eh?
