    He looks a bit like that Space Hamster loving, orc bashing, mad as a hatter Minsc from Baldur's Gate, except he has a rubbish beard and a < instead of a circle on his face. And Minsc isn't gay. He loves the ladies. Perhaps the shape is some kind of a clue to their sexual preference.
