Just hired one outside Kiev, around turn 100 (won game while ago but been continuing looking for Mongols for 60 years! Just found them doing nothing above Sarkel). Hopefully going to see it in action very soon!

I also hear there are Elephants with rockets to hire around Baghdad (Panzerphants) but my general hasn't made it there yet.

Yep, around the time of the Timurid appearance you can hire both regular elephants and elephant artillery. Panzerphants can really help when defending bridges and river crossings. I used an EA unit to help defend a ford against multiple Timurid attacks. They eventually forced their way across, but lost about 4000 men total and I won 2 heroic victories. In one of those victories my elephant artillery killed over 700 of the enemy on its own.
