Thread: Pre-release of 8.1

    Default Pre-release of 8.1

    Hello,

I've been eager to get started on some building and unit trees for EB. Can I get a pre-release of 8.1 so that I can get started?

I know that there are still a few CTD in that revision, but that would not stop me from decyphering the builing and unit files.

I have a lot of free time this week, so please contact me soon. I would like to get started ASAP.

The building code is generally the same as in 0.80. Only a few changes here and there to fix things. Comparing the two edb.txt files after 0.81 is released (compare with a free product like WinMerge) will be a piece of cake and would show where the differences occur. I don't think we will be supplying the build to anyone else outside of our small group of dedicated beta testers though. But we are quite optimistic that the release of 0.81 will take place soon.

Couldn't help but post this comment made by a beta tester on our most recent build (we've got some excellent dedicated testers on the whole by the way! We very carefully and quietly picked a few guys who were doing a lot of posting on bugs and who had been around a while on the forum too - people who we thought would be very helpful and whom we could trust).

I haven`t found many errors with U6 in my campaigns. I`ve played a 208 turn campaign with the Koinon Hellenon, and a 168 turn campaign with the Romanii, a 68 turn one with Epeiros, and a 42 turn one with Hayasdan, and I must say that the bugs that I`ve found are very scarce. Other than small typing errors in unit descriptions (some altogether missing too), some very small graphic glitches, and random errors, the version is bug-free.

In my big campaigns I had no pre-battle CTD whatsoever, and the only CTDs I had were due to memory problems... not related to the mod. So I didn`t experienced the pre-battle CTD with U6, even though I had some in campaings with previous updates.

Off course, the moment for the 0.81 release is yours (developers) to decide, but I just felt the need to state this opinion as a Betatester about the latest update, which I think has greatly improved the gameplay of the mod since 0.8 and previous updates (U4-U5).

My opinion may not be shared by my fellow betatesters, so I ask them to express your general experiences regarding to your own campaigns.

    Cheers
Hope it's not too optimistic. I had a random AI-turn CTD today as Casse, but my system is a little overloaded right now I think. This was not meant to be public, but you were asking about the build today and this was posted today too, so I thought it might be a nice response in a way.

    Doesn't Cheexsta say cheers?

Anyway, good news to hear and hopefully there won't be many more internal builds tested before 0.81 comes out. Maybe, just maybe, those smalls bugs and typos can be fixed and I can be playing 0.81 just in time to ignore studying and botch my Biochemistry exam.

Oh, there will still be plenty of little problems. Building text was hardly touched for 0.81 from 0.80. We'll have lots of things we are still working on, but it's good to hear the basic problems should be out of the way. It will be called 0.81, but I'm personally hoping to think of it more as a 1.0 type build (not done certainly, but stable and pretty polished, even if we have lots more to add). That's just me.

I used to have memory related CTDs all the time, but once I got a new computer I haven't had a single one. Weird since 0.8 isn't (reportedly) CTD free... Either I'm just lucky or someone is lying.

I would not need the whole build; only export_descr_buildings.txt and the export_buildings.txt from the text folder. Although I would prefer to work with the newer files, I agree that I can start work on it now. I will leave the building effects blank though, and it is most likely that someone else will have to edit the flowchart to show the corrections made to the newest release (unless it happens to come out early this week).

Of corse, it is your perogative if you wish to keep the files top secret. However, I still believe that I could release a better product if I saw the files in question.

So, just to be completely clear on this matter, - all saves from 0.8 won't work in version 0.81?

In fact trying to load a saved game from 0.80 will not only cause a CTD, but your monitor will rotate 90degrees, sparks will fly from your power source, and you will get that strange blue smoke that electronics give off... also it will electrocute your grandmother...

(Disclaimer: Yes, that was a joke, you only get a CTD.)

Thanks for answering my question, look forward to 0.81

    Default Pre-release of 8.1 - Bad Title!

I should have given topic a better title! It has gotten over 1000 hits because everyone thinks it is the update!

Since there is no longer a need for a "pre-release", and due to the semi-confusing nature of the title, this thread is hereby closed.
