Gaining Piety, w/out gaining chivalry

Once again I continue on my quest to get a dreadful pious general. I doubt there's any action which bestows both qualities simultaneously.... So....

What are some actions, or the quickest ways to gain JUST piety. Not Chivalry, we do NOT want Chivalry for this section of the family line. Hopefully the remainders of the traits will be passed on through grand kids, and they'll start with "my dad was dreadful, +4 dread, etc".

Have them march around w/ a priest? build churches in a town w/ a very high tax rate, etc?

It covers every trait that gives piety. Most of them are not in your control. Your best bet is Public Faith, which stems primarily from high level religious buildings. You can also get 2 levels of Religious Activity without gaining any Chivalry for 2 easy piety points - the 3rd and 4th levels do give +1 and +2 chivalry respectively though, so be careful.
