    Default Oppida Walls Help Request and Offer

    EB has, for some time, been trying to develop a type of walls for the celtic and possibly other barbarian factions in its mod. We have had two modellers work on them for us but give up after encountering difficulties with altering the walls in the game. But now we have an accomplished and skilled artist who has done a lot of the work already, but he is not used to the RTW engine and is encountering problems with that aspect.

    Of course the RTW engine itself has a number of limitations that prevent any real changes from varying too greatly from the way they look out of the box, but enough changes have been made by other mods to give us hope that these can be achieved in some manner. We have one person outside of the team who has agreed to help him and who has worked on walls with some success, but we still will make the offer to anyone else who is knowledgeable and who has altered walls in RTW before (modelling changes, not just changing the texture): we are more than happy to share the results with any mod team or group that can actually help us get the oppida into the game. The walls have been created already to a large degree, as these images show:



    Some of the issues relate to this: "Since I don’t know anything about the RTW Engine and the building files, that I refer to, are only available as .Item files, I can only guess and try to create proper .CAS files. Due to the fact, that I have no clue how the animation sequences are activated in the game, no key frames are visible in the imported 3d-file and I’m not able to find any information in the max script after I import an .Item file, I’m somehow stuck at the moment."

    Seems to me that the biggest problem in trying to make new walls is that its not that simple to change their height. You might ask the Zhang Guo people though.

    That's why the new oppida do not try and change this. The walls can be plugged into the game right now and they look great and can be sieged (i.e they work with towers and ladders) and units deployed on top and everything. BUT. If they are damaged or demolished via sapping or stonethrowing siege engine, THAT is where our modeler is having a problem.

    If you've changed the model you need to make new models for its destruction- you can see the Rome total war ones in the files as animations but I've never really tried it myself.
