Thread: Dismountable chariots.

    Default Dismountable chariots.

I understand that a pretty heavy part of Celtic chariot warfare often involved the chariots as basically being something of an escape vehicle where warriors could dismount their chariots to fight and flee back to them when the going got too tough.

This would definitely be something I'd like to see in the Mod but for obvious reasons this is quite difficult.

What I was wondering was whether it would be possible to utilize the artillary and seige weapon features which allows war machines and the likes to be dropped and see if this can be utilized to basically create a chariot that a unit could dismount in the same way youd just drop a piece of equipment, like dropping the ladders or what not.

I'm not sure how much is hard coded but I was wondering if something like that would be possible where you basically just took a siege engine program and replaced the model with a chariot and altered the speed and what not and basically allow the player to have chariots that their men can dismount.

Just a suggestion feel free to shoot down the idea ruthlessly.

Vercingetrix and I were looking at this about 12 months ago, but both he and I innitially got caught up with RL and now no longer actively contribute to EB.

There is also the problem of siege engines being available ONLY during sieges. I don't think it would be possible to have them in normal battles.

    Nice idea though.

I think Viking is referring to equipment like balistae and onagers.

Personally, if there is any way to accomplish it, it would be by this route. Unfortunately, the amount of work to do the coding and animations would be mind boggling.

Whoa, Psycho you're no longer part of EB? What a trip, you were always a visible member here on the boards and a cool guy to boot. But of course it's understandable, good luck with whatever you've got going on.

That would require making the general an artillery unit, wich have a hardcoded movement penalty I believe.

Actually, Verci apparently found a way around this.

Ah shucks …most gracious mate, you must be the only one on the planet to think so.

Yes, EB and I have parted ways for reasons I do not wish to disclose here. Suffice to say, the team will continue to improve / enhance this great mod (EB).

As for myself, I’ll soon be covered to the elbows in baby poop.

Why would that necessitate the general be an artillery unit?

Just because some chariot units would be made dismountable doesn't mean all would be.

What are you saying ? You know we all love you.
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

Wow. That sounds like it's certainly possible to make mountable chariots then. Though if they do function like siege towers/ladders/rams there would be nothing to stop other units from stealing them once the general dismounted. Not that that would be a bad thing. Just odd.

Either way it sounds as if it would take a hell of a lot of work to accomplish.
